Ahead of the January 31 deadline for phasing out old naira notes, FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has announced that its branches will open on Saturday and Sunday for cash deposit.
In a notification to Nigerians, the bank said, “This is to notify the general public that all our branches will be open on Saturday and Sunday just to receive cash.”
It would be recalled that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele reaffirmed few days ago that January 31 stipulated as the deadline for the exchange of old 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes for the new ones remains sacrosanct.
Also speaking in the same vein, President Muhammadu Buhari stated during an interview that three months is enough to exchange the old naira notes for the new ones. He therefore maintained that there will be no going back on the January 31 deadline.
