In what could be described as one of the events of the century for Nigeria, the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu took the sacred oath of office yesterday, May 29, 2023. While thoughts differ on what to expect from the incoming government, Nigerians can only hope for the best from his administration admist post election suits and controversies.
Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, to some is an icon who has proved his mettle in Political administration first as a senator 1992 – 1993, then a governor of Lagos 1999 till 2007. If track record is anything to go by, Bola Tinubu, whose administration as governor in Lagos contributed more than 30% to Nigeria’s GDP, with a meteoric rise of lagos’ IGR from 600 million to 8 billion per month is expected to do even better as president.
With a total debt profile hovering around 46.25 trillion naira, Nigeria can only support it’s president as he begins an uneasy tenure. In his words at the inauguration, his excellency promised to “bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria honestly, to the best of my ability and faithfully in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Law. To preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Nigerians can only brace for the journey ahead and prepare to support the new administration as it takes steps to resucitate the ailing economy and other criticall areas of Insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure, power and the likes.
