Are you even sure that what you are eating is safe for you?
Apart from the natural processing that raw food undergoes before it gets to our tables, some food products may also be exposed to harmful substances during processing, preservation, or storage. For example, there have been concerns about the adulteration of palm oil with substances such as textile dyes and the use of alum in preserving yam flour, commonly known as elubo.
Food is meant to nourish and support our health. However, when harmful substances are deliberately or carelessly introduced during processing, they can pose serious health risks. This raises an important question: Do we really know what is in the food we eat? However, should we allow fear to dominate our lives simply because we cannot know everything about the food we consume? Constant fear and anxiety can also affect our overall well-being. Rather than living in fear, we can take practical steps to reduce our exposure to potentially unsafe food.
One step is to patronise trusted vendors and reputable brands with good records. We can also buy raw food products from reliable sources and, where possible, process them ourselves. This gives us greater control over what goes into the food we eat and how it is prepared.
Furthermore, we can prepare more meals at home instead of relying heavily on already-prepared food from outside. Eating a balanced diet that includes fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and other nutritious foods can also support a healthy lifestyle. Proper food handling, clean water, clean cooking utensils, and appropriate storage are equally important in preventing food contamination.
Where supplements are necessary, they should be used responsibly and, where appropriate, under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. Supplements should not be seen as a replacement for a balanced diet or necessary medical care.
Regular physical activity is another important part of maintaining good health. Where your health permits, aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day and make adequate time for rest and recovery.
Taking care of the body involves not only what we eat but also how we live.Beyond these practical steps, faith can also play an important role in how we approach our health. Do not neglect the power of daily confession. Speak positively about your health and remind yourself that your body is healthy and strong. However, positive declarations should go alongside responsible health choices and appropriate medical care.Taking care of our health requires wisdom and responsibility. We should pay attention to what we eat, where our food comes from, how it is prepared, and how we care for our bodies.
At the same time, we should not allow fear to control us. We may not be able to control everything about the food available to us, but we can make informed choices, practise good food hygiene, choose reliable sources, and take responsibility for our health.
Your health is valuable. Pay attention to what you put into your body.
