NAFDAC Issues Public Alert on Recalled G Fuel Energy Drinks Over High Caffeine Content

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert, designated as No. 034/2023, notifying the public of the recalled G Fuel brand Energy Drinks. NAFDAC Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, said the products distributed by T&E Imports and GPAE Trading Corp contain high levels of caffeine.

NAFDAC had received information regarding the recall of these energy drinks from both the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Adeyeye said.

Consumption of products with high caffeine levels can result in adverse effects such as headaches, insomnia, irritability, and nervousness. She noted more importantly, that even individuals sensitive to caffeine may experience these effects at very low consumption levels.

Additionally, pregnant women are cautioned against consuming the products due to potential health risks, including an increased risk of miscarriage and the possibility of low birth weight.

Adeyeye also pointed out that the affected products did not include cautionary statements to limit the number of servings per day and are typically sold online.

More importantly, these products are not registered with NAFDAC hence they are not safe. Both consumers and retailers are advised to avoid using, selling, serving, or distributing said G Fuel Energy Drinks.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious distribution and sale of unwholesome packaged food products to the nearest NAFDAC office or reach NAFDAC through their provided contact channels ; 0800-162-3322 or via email: [email protected].

The DG also advised healthcare professionals and patients to report any adverse events or side effects related to the use of any substandard NAFDAC-regulated products. NAFDAC, according to her can be reached through or via the Med-safety application available for download on app stores
