Kwara State, north-central Nigeria, has recently been listed among the top seven states of the country that have been able to raise their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) beyond the federal government- stipulated 10per cent of derivative from statutory allocations to its federating states.

This was revealed by a front line economist and financial consultant, Dr. Chichi Ashwe during a review of the 2017 States’ IGR report on AIT’s Moneyline Show yesterday.

Referring to recent values obtained via the National Bureau of Statistics, Ashwe said the federal government had maintained that any state that was unable to generate at least 10per cent of what it obtained monthly from the federal centre, would be deemed unviable.

It is therefore interesting to note that Kwara, despite not being an oil producing state and the steady decline in its federal allocations over the past years, still had made the top seven out of 36 federating states, in terms of IGR accruals.
