Supreme Courts Backs Akeredolu’s victory
The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the re-election of Rotimi Akeredolu as Governor of Ondo State.
Akeredolu’s victory was affirmed after four of the seven justices of the Supreme Court that heard the case upheld his candidacy in the October 10, 2020 election in the state.
Three other justices disagreed with the majority judgement, insisting that Akeredolu’s candidacy in that election is a nullity. The minority judgement held the view that the appeal has merit and ought not to be struck out by the appeal court.
“Stop Offering Us Bribes” – Police Tells Nigerians
The Nigeria Police Force and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have appealed to Nigerians to stop offering their officers a bribe and to report erring officers.
The two agencies were among participants at a one-day virtual stakeholder dialogue on “effective and sustainable strategies for curbing retail corruption” organized by the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption (PACAC).
PACAC Executive Secretary Prof Sadiq Radda said citizens have a critical role to play in ending petty (retail) corruption, most of which occur in form of bribery. He believes retail corruption can be reduced when citizens are law-abiding and comply with the rules, and when institutions play their roles effectively.
Fear of Thirdwave of COVID-19 heightens in Lagos as Nigeria records 404 new cases
The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) today announced that it recorded a total of 404 new cases of in Nigeria.
Fear heightens in Lagos as the State alone accounted for 356 new cases of the 404 recorded in the country. Below is the breakdown of the new cases as reported by NCDC:
Rivers-18, FCT-7, Ekiti-5, Kaduna-5, Gombe-3, Kano-3, Edo-2, Ogun-2, Bayelsa-1, Plateau-1. 171,728 confirmed cases, 164,837 discharged and 2,134 deaths in the country.
The Federal Government has ordered all states in the country to activate their isolation centers as part of the measure to curb the spread of this virus.
Mother of 10 Loses 48 years Marriage for Denying Husband Sex
Mrs Tolu Osho, a mother of 10 has lost her 48-year-old marriage for allegedly denying her husband sex. The husband Mr Mojidi Osho had request for a divorce on the basis that his wife was denying him his conjugal right to sleep with her since 10 years ago.He also accused his wife of threatening to kill him so that she can inherit his property.
Responding to the allegations, the 68-year-old trader, Tolu, said that she denied her husband sex for only four years not 10 years as he claimed and that was because of his promiscuous act and denied poisoning his food. She also begged the court not to dissolve their marriage because she still loves her husband.
The court president, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, said that since the petitioner insisted on divorce after several interventions, the court was left with no option other than to grant him his prayer; and pronounced the union dissolved.
DPO Killed as Hoodlums Attack Gov’s Hometown in Imo
A Divisional Police Officer has been killed in Imo State as criminals on Tuesday invaded the hometown of the Governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma.
The gunmen, alleged to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, were said to have invaded Oru east Local Government where they killed DPO Faatman Dooiyor.
In the words of Mike Abatman, who is the PPRO for Imo “The tactical teams of the command immediately swung into action, ambushed and launched a surprise attack on the convoy of the bandits which resulted in the neutralisation of six of the bandits while 11 of them were arrested at the station,” he said.

Senior Advocate and Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Are Afe Babalola has called on Nigerians to ensure a new federal constitution with provision for parliamentary government be out in place ahead of the 2023 elections.
He made the remarks on Monday in his goodwill message as the special guest of honour at the Fifth Ife Institute of Advanced Studies, Summer Institute Programme on Monday July 26th.
He said anything contrary to this would result in “recycling the same failed leaders that have brought Nigeria to where it is today”.
Commotion in Osun as Police’s Stray Bullet Allegedly Hits Okada Rider
A police stray bullet has hit an Okada rider in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
As a result of this, colleagues of the Okada rider had gathered to attack policemen in sight after he was seen fallen by the bullet which hit him in the neck at the Okefia Roundabout a shirt distance from the Government House in Osogbo.
The State Police was deployed to control the situation and the victim has been taken to the the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He defiled me with his car keys- Minor testifies against Baba Ijesha
The 14-year-old minor, who was allegedly defiled by a Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, testified against him on Tuesday before an Ikeja Special Offences Court.
Recall that Baba Ijesha is facing a six-count charge of alleged defilement of a minor.In order to protect the minor’s identity, members of the public and press were ordered out of the courtroom leaving only lawyers and court registrars.
According to the girl, Baba Ijesha sexually abused her at the age of seven by inserting his car keys into her vagina. He also placed her on his laps and rubbed his penis on her body. The case has been adjourned to August 11,2021.
APC will wreck Nigeria before 2023 – Northern Elders Forum
Baba-Ahmed,the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum in a monitored Channels Television interview on Monday, has said that the ruling APC political party would have destroyed the country come 2023.
He also said that the next party to take over government in 2023 would have a difficult task of fixing the country.
Blaming the political party for the nation’s woes, Baba-Ahmed also said the country’s current predicament is not just as a result of of insecurity issues but also bad leadership.
FG Mobilized 9,100 corpers in Northwest admits insecurity.
Not less than 9,100 corps members have been mobilized to the North-western part of the country amidst the serious insecurity crisis in the region resulting in the abduction of about 430 persons and 344 killed in the last four weeks.
About 376 people were abducted and 189 killed in Zamfara and Kaduna states alone.
The States in the North-West include Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi and Jigawa.
Tragedy in Ekiti as Adulterous Wife Kills Spouse
Tragedy hits Igbara-Odo in the Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area of Ekiti State at the early hours of Monday as a house wife allegedly conspired to kill her husband over extra-marital affairs.
The house wife who had an unsettled matter with her husband Kayode eloped with her concubine with 3 of their children.
This led to Kayode deciding to go Ekiti to get his children back home where he has attacked by the house wife and her concubines and met his untimely death.
NOUN appoints 3rd Deputy VC for technology, innovation
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Prof. Monioluwa Olaniyi as the third Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, following the approval of the University’s Senate.
A statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by Ibrahim Sheme, Director, Media and Publicity of NOUN, the varsity appointed the female professor as the pioneer DVC in charge of Technology, Innovation and Research.
According to the statement, the appointment makes the the University the only one in Nigeria with three Deputy Vice Chancellors and also makes Olaniyi the second female emerging as DVC since the inception of the school.

The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) on Tuesday felicitated with Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi as he clocked 58.
Gov. Abubakar Bagudu, Chairman of the forum,in his felicitation statement noted that Umahi had made remarkable contributions to APC since he joined the party earlier in the year, saying that his leadership, vision and commitment to a united prosperous Nigeria was commendable.
The PGF is an umbrella organisation of governors elected on APC platform.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the swearing-in event at the State House, Ikeja, charged the installed Chairmen, who swore to oath, to live up to expectation, shunning sentiments of partisan leanings in the discharge of their duties.
Governor Sanwo-Olu who said to the newly installed Chairmen that their victories is an affirmation of the trust Lagosians have in their capabilities and capacities to discharge the duties of office, enjoined them to surpass the expectations of the people with social programmes which appeal to the welfare of the people at the grassroots.
He urges them to not be partisan as this is not the time for such but for real governance reminding them that public office is a position of trust which is meant for a time-frame, he also enjoined them to pay attention to crafting people centric policies that “will directly impact the lives of ordinarily citizens” within their jurisdictions.
CBN releases N756bn to over 3m farmers to boost food security
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), says it has released the sum of N756.51 billion to 3,734,938 small holder farmers, cultivating 4.6 million hectares of land, to boost the Federal Government’s food security initiative.
Mr Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, said that N120.24 billion of the sum was extended for the 2021 wet season to 627,051 farmers for 847,484 hectares of land, under the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP). “The sum of N121.57 billion was disbursed to 32,617 beneficiaries”.
“For the Targeted Credit Facility (TCF), N318.17 billion was released to 679,422 beneficiaries, comprising 572,189 households and 107,233 Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs),’’ he said.
