OPay has demanded the immediate removal and retraction of a publication allegedly made by CUTE HAFSERH (@HAIFAH_ER_ABBA) on X (formerly Twitter), which the company described as false, malicious, libellous, and defamatory.
According to OPay, the publication allegedly misinformed members of the public that the company would be going on a long and indefinite break. The post also reportedly advised customers to withdraw funds maintained in their OPay accounts.
The financial technology company, in a notice issued in response to the publication, described the claims as false and without any factual, legal, or ethical basis.
OPay stated that the publication could mislead members of the public and negatively affect confidence in the company. It further alleged that the publication had caused, or had the potential to cause, reputational and commercial damage to its brand and business operations
The company demanded that CUTE HAFSERH permanently delete the publication from her X account and any other platform where it may have been disseminated.
OPay also demanded that she desist from further publishing or circulating what it described as false information about the company. In addition, the company requested a clear and unequivocal retraction of the publication and an unreserved apology.
The company gave her a deadline of 11:59 p.m to comply with its demands.
OPay further warned that failure to comply could result in legal action, stating that the publication had caused what it described as irreparable damage to the company.
The company said it would pursue all appropriate legal remedies available to it if the demands were not met.
