The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa, has been suspended by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The reason for the suspension is due to “weighty allegations” of abuse of office against him and to allow for a thorough investigation into his conduct while in office. Bawa has been instructed to immediately hand over to the Director of Operations at the commission while the investigation takes place.
According to a statement by the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, on Wednesday, Tinubu approved the indefinite suspension of Bawa as Chairman of the EFCC, to allow for proper investigations into his conduct in office
The statement read in part, “Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
