It is no longer news that 26 year old Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef, restaurateur, actress, and the current holder of the Guinness World Record for marathon cooking (Cook-athon) with 93 hours 11 minutes, has started a ‘record-setting’ sensation in Nigeria.
Baci who cooked for 4 days , stretch had garnered massive engagement and supports from Nigerians leading to a new awareness among many Nigerians who were not really aware of Guinness world records. Some individuals had since then, started out to set new records, like Damilola Adeparusi, a chef from Oye, Ekiti, who set out recently for a 120-hour ‘cook-a-thon’
Not only has the sensational record pushed Hilda into limelight and fame, it also garnered massive recognition for Guinness world records itself at least among many Nigerians, as well as on its social media handles and website. The records body said earlier that massive traffic on its site caused by Hilda’s sensational record made it crash for two days , “due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans,” the organization said.
As if that was not enough, Guinness World Records has said that their tweet to officially convey certification of Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual shared on June 13, 2023, is their “best-performing tweet of all time.”
On Tuesday, GWR had confirmed Hilda Baci and her official record at 93 hours 11 minutes, surpassing the previous record holder, Lata Tandon who held the record at 87 hours and 45 minutes cooking marathon.
Retweeting the post on Thursday, the body wrote that their tweet congratulating Hilda was the best performing tweet of all times with over 27 million reached feeds and 223k likes as at today, setting a new record in a record.
The certification tweet which has since been pinned on their twitter page, was retweeted with the quote “Yeah, so this is our best-performing tweet of all time with nearly 25 million news feeds reached.”
It is important to note that engagements on GWR tweets before Hilda’s big win was on the average, with Hilda’s record, which has recently began a trend of record breaking in Nigeria, pushing GWR into limelight among many in Nigeria.
Nigeria has been said by some to be a unique nation, others cannot place where the uniqueness comes from, but it is worth noting that there is a Nigerian spirit in Nigerians that makes a difference, starts a trend something ordinary and has the guts to set a record in a record.
