The Executive Director, Institute for Media and Society (IMS), Dr. Akin Akingbulu, says, there have been 160 attacks on Journalists in two years.
He said this during the Media Stakeholders Meeting and Public Presentation of Publications, under the Support to Media (Component 4A) of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Project.
The meeting which sought to engage media stakeholders on progress made on the Support to Media Component of the EU-SDGN Project implemented by IMS, discussed salient and emerging issues affecting the media, and collectively generated ideas towards
strengthening media professionalism in Nigeria.
One of the issues raised was the shrinking civic space and attacks on media freedom in mass media professionalism.
The IMS Boss further stressed that, no matter the training a journalist gets and no matter the capacity he acquires, if the environment is not free enough for him to practice, it is an issues.
Meanwhile, participants at the event were journalists from broadcast, print, online media and other relevant stakeholders, including members of media industry groups, academia and civil society organisations.
