The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant seizures of illegal drugs of not less than 4,560 kilograms of skunk in the Lagos, Adamawa, and Osun state.
According to the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA also conducted a raid on a skucchies factory in Ogun state, leading to the arrest of four individuals involved in a drug syndicate. Among the detainees were two church officials, a female employee of a courier company, and another woman. They were found to be trafficking fentanyl, a highly dangerous opioid, in Delta.
This recent seizure is connected to the dismantling of a fentanyl cartel operating in Warri, Delta state. The NDLEA had previously apprehended two members of another syndicate involved in the distribution of the deadly drug. Fentanyl is known to be 100 times stronger than heroin and has been responsible for a significant number of overdose deaths worldwide.
Law enforcement agents have since apprehended two officials from Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministries in Warri, Delta state in connection with intercepted shipments of fentanyl. Adewale Abayomi Ayeni and Ebipakebina Appeal, employed by the church, are now under arrest. Ayeni works at the church’s prayer call center, while Ebipakebina is responsible for transporting international guests from airport to the church
During the investigations into the intercepted drug shipments, two female accomplices were also apprehended in Warri. Naomi David, a staff member of United Parcel Services (UPS), and Stacy Njideka, also known as Nkiruka, allegedly associated with Ayeni’s business, were implicated in the drug ring.
In another operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted a Toyota Hilux vehicle in Adamawa state on July 5th. Upon searching the vehicle, which was occupied by Kelvin Efe and Christian Ogaga, authorities discovered 544 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 408kg. The drugs were hidden in a secret compartment and intended for distribution in Yola, Mubi, and Gombe.
In Lagos, a suspect named Segun Odeyemi was apprehended on July 1st while transporting 89 jumbo bags of skunk, weighing a total of 3,842kg, in his truck in the Eleganza area of Ajah, Lekki. Meanwhile, in Osun state, an abandoned J5 Peugeot bus was found along Akure-Ilesa expressway with bags of fresh pepper used to conceal 25 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing 300.5kg.
Lastly, operatives in Ogun state conducted a raid on a skucchies factory in Ajaka Sagamu, resulting in the arrest of a suspect named Adekunle Adekola. Various exhibits were seized during the raid, including cannabis, skucchies, codeine, deep freezers, generators, gas cylinders, among others.
