Killings: Herdsmen burn houses, kill several in Plateau fresh attack

Several citizens of Plateau state who are majorly between aged 70 and 100 years, were allegedly killed in an attack launched by suspected herdsmen in Huke village, Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area.

 

Reports by police in the state had it that the supposed herdsmen adopted guerrilla tactics of hit and run adding that operatives of the State Investigation and Intelligence Bureau have been positioned to bring the perpetrators to book.

The Chairman, Committee on Health in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Simon Ahile, representing Rukuba/Irigwe constituency, said, the legislators are not in the capacity to stop the activities of the herdsmen stating that it is the responsibility of the state Governor to protect lives and properties of citizens in the state.

Meanwhile the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, who confirmed the killing of the three elderly men said they earlier receive information that a gang of armed men, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, were seen killing people and burning down houses at Huke village stating that “On receipt of this information, they immediately mobilised police force to the area.

According to him ‘’While getting close to the village, the suspected herdsmen sighted our patrol vehicles, and took to their heels’’.

He confirmed that the attack claimed lives and properties of some innocent citizens in the state.
