Two non-teaching staff unions of Nigerian public universities have issued a one week strike notice to the Federal Government to pay their four months withheld salaries.
The two unions are the Senior Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU.
At separate news briefings, the SSNAU President, Muhammed Haruna and the NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi say the Federal Government is playing divide and rule for approving withheld salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, without the slightest regards for non-academic personnel.
The two non-teaching staff unions say government has always been responsible for the poor quality of the country’s education, as it has consistently frustrated workers, forcing a down tool at different times.
The two unions say up till now, the government has not produced a way forward after it announced the removal of university-based unions from the controversial Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.
