Chairman of National Steel Council, Alhaji Murtala Aliyu, at a reunion dinner with alumni of his alma mater, Federal Government College, Odogbolu, class of 1979, shared how he once secured the office of Minister, Power and Stee by virtue of his affliliation with his alma mater.
Aliyu, also a former President of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, in his address, appreciated the role of unity schools and the opportunities they afford others like himself.
He recollected the events that led to his ministerial officialdom during former President Obasanjo regime. Aliyu had gotten a safe pass while presenting to the Senate upon a mention that he graduated from FGC, Odogbolu.
An excited Senate comprising of south west Senators had cheered upon hearing this, halting the screening session, which resulted in his assent as Minister in a unanimous decision.
While he spoke on the need to remember the purpose for their establishment, Aliyu charged alumni to convene more gatherings like the Fego’79 reunion to look into more ways to give back to the institution.
