Four UNIUYO students die in an accident on their way to NYSC Camp

Four prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have lost their life in a fatal motor accident on their way to the orientation camp.

The graduates of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom state were on their way to report to the NYSC orientation camp in Katsina on Wednesday when the incident occurred.

Three of them died on the spot, Three of the deceased were indentified as Miracle Asuquo, Stella Ekikor and Victor Akpan.

US lawmakers stop $875m arms sale to Nigeria over human rights violations

Some United States lawmakers have halted the planned sale of arms worth $875millions to Nigeria over concerns about the President Mohammadu Buhari’s led government human rights record.

A report in Foreign Policy, said senate foreign relations committee comprising of both Democrats and Republicans have delayed clearing a proposed sales of 12-AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters and accompanying defense systems to the Nigerian Military.

According to the report, the lawmakers opposition was based on President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration’s perceived human rights abuse and the Endsars protest of 2020 that ended in crisis and banditry.

Senate names Jonathan, Sambo in N665.8bn diversion, demands refund

The Senate has demanded a return of funds totaling N665.8bn which were allegedly diverted by the Office of the Account General of the Federation from the Solid Mineral Development Fund and Stabilization Fund to ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government.

The beneficiaries according to the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation included Independent National Electoral Commission, Ministry of Power, Nigerian Army as well as former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Namadi Sambo, among others.

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts chaired by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, in its reports on the audit queries by the auditor-general, said that investigation shows that part of the find was used as entitlement to Jonathan and Sambo, about N1.5bn paid in June 11,2015.

EFCC Arrests Former Governor, Wife Over Corruption Allegations

Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State and a serving senator, and his wife have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to sources at the anti-graft agency, the pair is now being interrogated by operatives at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Although the details of the allegation against the ex-governor and his wife is still unclear, sources claimed their detention is related to alleged breach of trust and theft of funds committed during the former governor’s eight-year tenure as governor of Nasarawa State.

Sunday Igboho Has ‘Some Levels Of Protection’ From Germany – Lawyer

In an interview with PUNCH Online’s The Roundtable, Olasupo Ojo, the lawyer to Sunday Igboho revealed that Igboho is legally recognized as the spouse of a German citizen, Ropo, and that Germany provides him with “certain kinds of security.”

“Germany has no objections to him visiting the country. On his trip to Germany, he was detained. Germany will go to any length to protect its citizens’ lives. He is entitled to some legal protection because he is married to a citizen and has a residency permit.

“They won’t want his rights to be tampered with. Germany has not denied that he is a resident. There is no problem with Germany at all on this,” he said.

Nigeria’s Democracy Is In Jeopardy-Osinbajo

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo during the presentation of the National Orientation Agency’s (NOA) five-year strategic plan (2021-2026) and assessment by select stakeholders from Ministries, Departments and Agencies, civil society, and development partners on Wednesday in Abuja, said the country’s democracy is in a mess.

In his words while being represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Policy Research, Office of the Vice President, Chris Ngwodo, he said:

We are in the time of our history when the NOA by virtue of its mandate must come to the fore. There is a struggle for the heart and soul of this country and a struggle to change the destiny of our society as already observed.

“We are facing different challenges: the challenge of expanding the cycles of inclusion; the challenge of deepening democracy; the challenge of forging social cognition; and the challenge of expanding opportunity for a young population. These challenges all border on issues of state legitimacy and the renewal of the social contract,”

Release Nnamdi Kanu Within 11 Days Or We Lock Down South East – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
has given the Federal Government 11 days to unconditionally release its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB’s Directorate of State, Mazi Chika Edoziem, has stated that the Southeast will be completely shut down on a daily basis if Kanu is not released by August 9, 2021.

Edoziem, in a statement issued yesterday, explained that the lockdown is to ensure government released Kanu “hale and hearty.”

Buhari Told To Apologise For Killing El-Zakzaky’s Six Children, Detaining Him For 6 Years

Prominent Nigerian activists Deji Adeyanjy and Omoyele Sowore has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to apologize to Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), For imprisoning him for six years and for the death of his children.

In a tweet, Adeyanju wrote: “BREAKING: Nigerian Shiites leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and wife, discharged and acquitted, to be released ASAP! “Judge says, “Case of the prosecution so manifestly unreliable.“ Muhammadu Buhari has done a lot of harm & injustice to a lot of people!”

El-Zakzaky and his wife were granted freedom by a Kaduna High Court presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada. The IMN leader and his wife, according to Justice Kurada, have no case to answer.

Buhari Regime Showing Support For Terrorists, Bandits In Nigeria — UK Parliament

The activities of President Muhammadu Buhari’s dictatorship have been recognized by the UK Parliament to imply support for ongoing terrorist and bandit attacks on persons and communities.

The news comes only weeks after Mr Buhari openly backed Isa Pantami, his communications minister, who made headlines after his violent sermons and support for Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and other extremist organisations were exposed online.

Mr. Pantami’s harmful beliefs were excused by Mr. Buhari as originating from a place of ignorance, despite the fact that the minister was in his mid-30s and early 40s when he made the remarks. The president urged Mr Pantami to stay in his job, saying without evidence that he had changed his mind about his previous ideas and romantic relationship with terrorism.

Gunmen Kidnap Seven Naval Officers In Edo

Gunmen suspected of be kidnappers have abducted seven Nigerian Navy officers in Edo State, while traveling to Delta from Kaduna State, the officers were attacked and kidnapped along the Sapele-Warri route.

SP Kotongs Bello, the State Police Public Relations Officer, verified the incident to DAILY POST, saying the command had rescued five policemen.

The PPRO who was unable to give details of the incident, said the command is working hard to ensure the remaining officers are also rescued unhurt.
