Police Helicopter Crashes In Bauchi

A police helicopter has crashed at Bauchi Airport, according to the Accident Investigation Bureau. The bureau said the helicopter took off from Abuja on Wednesday evening for Bauchi.

In a statement on Thursday, the bureau noted that there was no loss of life.

“On 26th January 2022, Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria was notified by Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) about an accident involving a Bell 429 helicopter with Registration Marks 5N-MDA owned and operated by Nigerian Police Force (NPF).”

“The Bureau will appreciate that the general public and press respect the privacy of the people involved and NOT assume the cause of the accident until a formal report is released.” The statement said.

Deposed Traditional Ruler, Deji Of Akure Adesina Adepoju Is Dead

The deposed Deji of Akure, Oba Adesina Adepoju, is dead.

The late monarch had ruled for five years before he was deposed by the Ondo State Government on June 10, 2010, for allegedly assaulting one of his estranged wives, the late Bolanle Adepoju, in public.

He was banished to a secluded village in Owo, Owo Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State ‎over the offence.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Spokesman for the Adesina Royal Family of the Osupa Ruling House, Prince Dapo Adepoju, said the deposed monarch died on Thursday morning at a private hospital in Abuja.

Bisi Kolawole Emerges Ekiti PDP Governorship Candidate

Former Ekiti State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Bisi Kolawole, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election for the June 18, 2022 guber poll.

The Efon Alaaye born politician from Ekiti Central Senatorial District, who enjoys the unreserved backing of former Governor Ayo Fayose beat his closest rival, former governor Segun Oni, to clinch the guber ticket.

Kolawole was a former House of Assembly member from 2007 to 2011 and Commissioner for Environment under the administration of Fayose between 2015 and 2018.

Buhari Commends Olu Of Warri, Promise Equity, Fairness To Itsekiris

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised a fair deal to the Itsekiri people of Delta State, while also commends the patriotism of His Royal Majesty, Tsola Emiko, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom.

A statement issued by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, said, President Buhari spoke on Wednesday at State House, Abuja, while receiving the monarch and some of his chiefs on Wednesday.

“I’m grateful for your visit, and impressed by your patriotism. I’ve taken note of your requests, and will work on them as soon as politically possible”, the President said.

The Olu of Warri said the visit was to primarily thank the President for sending a high-powered delegation to his coronation as the 21st monarch of the Kingdom.

NNPC assures Nigerians of sufficient PMS stock

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPC) has assured the public that the Company has sufficient stock of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, to meet the needs of Nigerians.

Mr Garba Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC, gave the assurance in a statement on Wednesday.

Muhammad, therefore, advised the public not to engage in panic buying of petrol and to ignore all rumours that may suggest otherwise.

“In line with the existing laws of the land, NNPC Ltd. is deeply committed to ensuring energy security for the country,” the group general manager said.

Chicago State University reacts on Tinubu’s alleged certificate forgery

The Chicago State University has confirmed that the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, indeed attended the university.

A recent viral article claimed that all the schools Tinubu claimed to have attended had disowned him.

However, Beverly Poindexter, who is in charge of official transcript requests, enrolment, and degree verification at the Office of the Registrar, CSU, confirmed that Tinubu attended the school.

Former registrar of the school, Lois Davis had also in a letter dated August 20, 1999, said Tinubu was a student of the university between 1977 and 1979. He wrote, “Please be advised that Bola A. Tinubu did indeed attend Chicago State University from August 1977 through June 1979. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Administration with honors on June 22, 1979. His major was Accounting.”

Murdered OAU Student, Timothy Adegoke To Be Buried On Saturday

Timothy Adegoke, the MBA student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, who died under mysterious circumstances in November, is to be buried on Saturday.

Olugbade Adegoke, elder brother of the deceased, told FIJ on Wednesday that arrangements had been concluded by the Adegoke extended family to lay the Abuja-based accountant to rest.

Adegoke’s body has been at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Osogbo, for several weeks because of a police investigation into his death at Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, where he was lodged.

Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of the hotel, and six others are currently in police custody over the incident.

Police arrest 3 suspected Kidnappers in Delta

The Delta Police Command has arrested three persons in connection with Saturday’s botched kidnap attempt at Esiso Street, Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri on Wednesday. He stated that the victim (name withheld) reported the incident to the police and narrated how he escaped from his assailants.

He stated: “At about 2130hrs on Jan. 22, a kidnap victim reported that he was kidnapped on Esiso Street, Agbarho. He further explained that he escaped from his abductors, while they were transferring him into another vehicle. On Jan. 23, the victim spotted one of the hoodlums and immediately alerted the Agbarho Divisional Officer (DPO), CSP Samuel Ogwa.

“The DPO swiftly mobilised and led operatives to the area, where one Godstime Rufus, 22, was arrested,” he said. Edafe added that Rufus later led the operatives to their hideout, where two other suspects, including Stanley Efeme, 21, and Davidson Esiso, 35, were arrested.

EndSARS: Oyo judicial panel tenders report to Makinde

he Judicial Panel of Inquiry into police brutality and other related matters in Oyo State, on Wednesday, submitted its report to Gov. Seyi Makinde.

Recall that the governor had, on Nov. 10, 2020, inaugurated the 12-man panel of inquiry to look into reports of police brutality and extrajudicial killings in the state. The panel is headed by a former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Badejoko Adeniji.

In her remarks, the panel chairman said that a total of 151 petitions were received, while public sittings were held, during which about 30 petitions were struck out and 121 petitions adjudicated upon for award of necessary compensations. She said that the panel recorded some achievements and facilitated the release of the corpses of some victims of police unlawful killings to their families for befitting burial.

Makinde, while receiving the reports, assured the committee that his administration would study and implement the recommendations of the panel.

US Court To Sentence Hushpuppi On Valentine’s Day

The United States Attorney’s Office at the Central District of California says that Ramon Abbas, aka, Hushpuppi, will be sentenced on February 14, 2022.

In a plea agreement, Hushpuppi had pleaded guilty to various offences bordering on internet scam and money laundering, among others.

Also, the court had ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to arrest the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, for his alleged role in a $1m scam allegedly perpetrated by Hushpuppi and five others.

However, in December 2021, Mrozek declined comments on the warrant of arrest the court issued months earlier that the FBI should apprehend Kyari and other defendants in the case.
