Bandits Kidnap School Teacher, Four Others In Yobe
The Police Command in Yobe on Wednesday confirmed the abduction of Babagana Kachalla, an Assistant Headmaster, Central Primary School, Buni Yadi.
Kachalla was abducted alongside four other people by unknown gunmen in Madiya Village, Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the Command, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, who confirmed the incident in a statement in Damaturu, identified the other captives as Abubakar Barma, Haruna Barma, Modu Bukar and Hajiya Gana. He, however, said that Gana was later released by the gunmen.
Abdulkarim said the incident which occurred at about 8:20 a.m on Tuesday was reported to the divisional police station in the area by one Mala Boyema at about 10:37 am. Boyema was reported to have escaped after he ran into the road block mounted by the gunmen in Madiya.
Wife murders husband over infidelity claims
Tragedy has struck again in Lagos as the wife of a hotelier and business, identified as Boma has eliminated him over claims of infidelity.
Bama, who was the owner of Bama hotel and suites located in the Abule-Egba area of the state, was allegedly attacked by his wife while he was asleep on Monday, January 24.
The couple was married for eight years and had three children before the unfortunate incident occurred.It was gathered that they just returned from a trip to Dubai when the aggrieved wife drugged her husband and attacked him with a hot iron.
A source claimed, “she accused him of impregnating another woman. And from what I heard, she drugged him and used a hot iron to press him to death.”
2023 Elections: Okorocha officially announce his ambitions for Presidency
Senator Rochas Okorocha has officially declared to run for Presidency in 2023.
Okorocha made this known in a letter to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and read at the commencement of Wednesday’s plenary.
He is a senator representing the Imo West senatorial district on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker said he will address a world press conference on Monday 31st January 2022 to officially declare his ambition to contest the presidency.
Lagos State To Launch Two New Universities, Merges Colleges Of Education
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, said the state government will merge the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, and the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe, to form a university of education.
The Governor also said the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, would become a university of science.
He disclosed this while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour during the public presentation of a book “Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe @60: Audacity of Resilience”. It was launched in honour of the Vice-Chancellor the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
The governor said the two new universities would take off following the approval given by the National Universities Commission, NUC. He gave the assurance that the state government would not because of the additional responsibility fail to adequately fund its existing tertiary and other institutions.
2023 Elections: Makinde begs Nigerians to choose right
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, charged Nigerians to choose wisely in 2023 by electing people that have the energy to serve the country.
The governor gave the charge at the 65th birthday anniversary and thanksgiving service, as well as the launching of a ministry by the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle, held at the Oritamefa Baptist Church, Yemetu, Ibadan.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as adding that aged people who plan to run for elective positions should have a rethink.
“We are in election season basically and what I will say to us as a people is that we need to choose wisely and elect the people who have the energy to truly serve the country.”
Security Operatives Arrest Over 100 Armed Thugs In Ekiti
Soldiers of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Ondo State have arrested no fewer than 150 political thugs at Ita Awure/Efon Junction in Efon Alaaye in Ekiti State.
The alleged political thugs, FirstNigeriaTv gathered were heading towards Ado Ekiti for the primaries of some of the political parties ahead of the forthcoming state governorship election, held today.
They were said to have been arrested at about 3am on Wednesday. It was also gathered that the soldiers would take the suspects to Owens Barracks in Akure for further investigation.
The Public Relations Officer of the Brigade, Akin Omojokun, who confirmed the arrest, said the Brigade would soon issue a statement on the development.
Prison decongestion: Adamawa committee free 119 inmates
A committee established to decongest prisons in Adamawa State has effected the release of 119 inmates of a correctional centre at the state capital, Yola.
The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee concluded the process of discharging the 119 inmates on Tuesday evening.
The committee also convicted 49 awaiting trial inmates and granted bail to 31 who were in prison detention.
The committee which was led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Nathan Musa, said out of the total number of 410 inmates awaiting trial, only 19 were convicted for various offences at the Jimeta Correctional Centre.
Buhari Launches National Policy on 5G Technology
President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated National Policy on 5G for Nigeria’s Digital Economy, directing all the security institutions to immediately leverage Fifth Generation (5G) technology, when deployed, to enhance security in the country.
5G technology was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) Sept. 8, 2021, following a robust debate.
Launching the technology, the president said the Federal Government would take full advantage of the opportunities that 5G provides for the economy, security and well-being of the nation. He also allayed fears over health safety of 5G, affirming that such issues had been ”effectively addressed” in developing a Policy that suits the country.
On the benefits of 5G technologies, the president noted it could support virtually every sector of the economy, including enhanced connectivity, improved healthcare, support for education while fostering smart cities, and boosting agriculture, among other advantages.
Senior Aide To Deputy Senate President Tenders His Resignation
A senior legislative aide to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned his appointment.
The Senior aide, Voke Ighorodje, made his intention known in a resignation letter dated January 12, 2022, which was addressed to and received by the Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, Dr Otive Igbuzor, on January 13, 2022.
The resignation, however, took a dramatic turn when the APC, Delta State chapter, expelled Ighorodje for alleged anti-party activities. The expulsion was announced on January 18, 2022, less than a week after Ighorodje’s resignation, via a statement signed by the State Legal Adviser/Publicity Secretary of the APC, E. V. Onojeghuo.
Nigerian Lawmaker Announces Birth Of 28th Child At Reps Plenary
The Majority Leader of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has announced that one of his wives has delivered his 28th child.
The lawmaker disclosed the development at the opening of plenary on Tuesday when the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, asked the Majority Leader if he had any personal explanation or announcement to make.
While Ado-Doguwa said there was none, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, announced that the Majority Leader just had a new child.
Elumelu said, “Mr Speaker, mine is to congratulate my brother, the Leader of the House. He currently has 28 children and is still counting. He just received a double a few days ago. That made it 28. It was 26, now 28.”
