Osinbajo Appraises Coca-Cola Planned $1 Billion Investment In Nigeria

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday said Coca-Cola’s plan to invest $1 billion in Nigeria in the next five years testifies to the possibilities in the economy.

This was disclosed by Laolu Akande, spokesperson to the vice president, in a statement issued on Tuesday said Professor Osinbajo made the remark at the 70th anniversary gala of the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC).

The vice president reiterated that the Buhari administration is committed to “creating an environment that allows the private sector to innovate and thrive.

The Nigerian Bottling Company was incorporated in 1951 but started production in 1953 at the basement facilities of the Mainland Hotel, owned by Leventis Group, producing Coke licensed by the Coca-Cola Company.

Lagos Panel EndSARS Report is Fake- Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information, Alhai Lai Mohamed, has dismissed the report submitted by the Lagos State EndSARS panel on Police Brutality as a hoax, which did not follow the evidence at hand.

Mohammed maintained that instead of sitting for one year, the panel should have just compiled social media reports and wound up.

The minister alleged that the report is ridden with discrepancies, innuendos, inconsistency and errors.

In his words, He said, “What is circulating in public space is simply a rehash of the unverified fake news that has been playing on social media since the incident of Oct. 20th 2020”.

UNILORIN female student wins NCC essay competition

A female student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Miss Esther Oluwabukola Gbeja has emerged as the overall best in a national essay competition organized by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).

Esther was announced the best among other winners by the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta on Tuesday at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Danbatta noted that the national essay competition was the third that the NCC has organized, and that the Commission received close to 2000 entries for the third edition won by Esther.

Kaduna-Abuja Highway Attack, A National Disgrace – Arewa

The apex northern sociocultural group, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has described the incessant killings of innocent citizens along the Abuja-Kaduna highway by bandits as a national shame.

The forum added that it is becoming “agitated by the unrestrained acts of terrorism on the strategic highway between Abuja, the Federal Capital and Kaduna, the former capital of defunct Northern region.”.

In a statement on Monday, Emmanuel Yawe, the forum’s spokesperson, said the trend is “completely unacceptable” and asked the Kaduna and federal governments to wake up to their responsibilities.

He urged the government to save Nigerians from the daily nightmare on the road.

Baba Suwe’s Son Apologises To TAMPAN, Nigerians

Adesola Omidina, the son of the late veteran Nigerian comic actor, Baba Suwe, has apologized to the members of Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Practitioners Association Of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and Nigerians concerning his comments after his father died yesterday.

Omidina, who is also an actor, in a video that has gone viral, alleged that friends and colleagues of the late actor abandoned him in his time of need.

While retracting his statement, the Omidina via his Instagram page wrote, “As the son of the veteran actor late Babatunde Omidina ‘Baba Suwe’ I am genuinely issuing this statement to denounce and condemn the video(s) about Baba Suwe’s death that has been wrongly posted.

Why Buhari Has Failed To Tackle Bandits – Djinee

Popular music act Djinee has maintained that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has been too soft on bandits and kidnappers who threaten the peace and security of the country.

He stated this on his Twitter page, adding that the government does not tackle issues unless it has a direct impact on their lives and livelihoods, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and EndSARS protest as examples.

In his words, he said: “The government never attacks any issue (good and bad) except it has a direct impact on their lives and livelihoods. Ebola, COVID, End SARS protest, crypto etc, they acted decisively. They’ll treat bandits with kid gloves until their lives and that of their families are in danger”.

I Have Nothing Personal Against Davido – Baba Fryo

Nigerian singer Baba Fryo has stated that he has no problem with Davido, adding that his recent comments about the singer were misunderstood.

Recall that Davido, after receiving N200 million from his friends and fans, added N50million and announced that the money would be shared to orphanages around the country.

This resulted in so many reactions as many Nigerians applauded the singer’s generosity. However, Baba Fryo didn’t share in this euphoria as he took to his Instagram account to recount how Davido and other well-to-do singers in the country did not come to his aid in his time of need.

According to him, he has nothing personal against Davido but only expected that the singer would have helped him by at least sharing his predicament on social media when he came public with it back then.

Flour Mills Buys 76.8% Stake In Honeywell Flour Mill

Nigeria’s major flour maker, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, said it has brokered a deal to buy out the majority equity interest in rival Honeywell Flour Mills, majority owned by billionaire and immediate past chair of FBN Holdings Oba Otudeko.

The agreement enables Flour Mills to purchase 71.69 per cent stake in Honeywell, while a separate pact with FBN Holdings Group allows the miller to acquire the financial services group’s stake of 5.06 per cent in Honeywell, bringing its consolidated holding in Honeywell to 76.75 per cent.

Quoting a regulatory filing note at the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Monday, Premium Times reports that the deal could mean Flour Mills will be taking over about 6.09 billion units of Honeywell’s 7.93 billion ordinary shares, priced at an opening price of N3.39 per unit on Monday.

It said the disposal of the 71.69 percent stake by Honeywell will be conducted on the basis of an enterprise value N80 billion.

FG to inject 10m gas cylinders in 12 pilot states – Osinbajo

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that the Federal Government plans to inject 10 million gas cylinders in the next one year, through certified marketers in 12 pilot states.

Osinbajo disclosed this at a two-day Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sensitisation under the theme: “Stimulating Delta state’s socio-economic growth through LPG adoption and expansion”, on Monday, in Asaba.

The Vice President said that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring an end to gas-flaring and had signed the climate change bill, to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in the country.

Nigeria sets $1.2bn export capacity for every state

The National Action Committee, African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) has emphasised the need to surge down its activities to the subnational level with state governments playing a major role.

This was disclosed by the Secretary of the committee, Mr Francis Anatogu, on Monday during a joint news conference with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), in Abuja, on the AfCFTA Subnational Strategy Workshop scheduled to hold from Tuesday to Thursday in Abuja.

Anatogu said that for AfCFTA to be truly successful in Nigeria, there was a great need to work with states to find their niche in Africa’s export market

He pointed out that the subnational strategy workshop would serve as an intervention that would put the nation on course to make the AfCFTA goal a reality for Nigeria.
