BREAKING: Yoruba actor Baba Suwe dies

Veteran Yoruba actor Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe has passed on. The actor died on Monday at 63.

Baba Suwe’s death was announced by one of his son, Adesola Omidina, in a statement on social media.

Recall that the actor began acting in 1971 but came into limelight after he featured ina movie titled, Omolasan. He became more popular after he featured in airy Esin produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997.

APC Governors to discuss party’s National Convention with Buhari

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have agreed to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, to discuss the way forward for the party’s upcoming national convention.

The governors under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) reached the agreement at the end of their meeting on Sunday night in Abuja.

Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi and Chairman of the PGF, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the closed door meeting.

In his words he said: “We agreed as a forum to seek an appointment to meet with President Buhari and discuss the on-coming national convention of the party”.

Shonubi emerges NIQS president

Mr. Micheal Olayemi Shonubi has emerged as the new President for the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS).

Shonubi, who was inaugurated the 26th president of NIQS last Saturday at the institute’s 29th biennial conference held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, stressed the need to consolidate on the achievements of the past administrations.

He outlined his vision to include collaboration with other professional bodies in the built environment with a view to influencing government policies and laws that affect the industry; developing strategic plans for the growth and development of the profession as well as deepening the training on ethics and ensuring that the ethics and practice monitoring committee of the institute function effectively.

Alleged N5bn Fraud: Malami’s Letter Stalls Arraignment Of Senator Stella Oduah

The arraignment of Senator Stella Oduah, a former minister of aviation before justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal Hight Court Abuja, has been stalled.

Oduah, who is now a Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial district in the Senate, was scheduled to be arraigned on a 25-count charge, along with 8 other defendants, all of who were present in court on Monday.

However, the arraignment could not go on as scheduled because of an application by one of the defence lawyers and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ogwu Onoja asking the court not to go on with taking the plea.

The court subsequently ordered parties to file written addresses on the issue. The arraignment has been adjourned to February 10, 2022

Kano Rice Farmers made huge harvest despite little rainfall

Rice farmers in Dakasoye settlement of Garun Malam local government area of Kano State, said they recorded huge harvest despite little rainfall in 2021 season.

The farmers said this was possible because of their use of improved seedlings, and that the seedlings had boosted their production by about 25 per cent.

Mr Iliyasu Garba said he was among the few farmers that resisted the improved seedlings when it was introduced to them through the Kano Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).

He explained that but with the awareness and training, he decided to try the seedlings during the 2021 rainy season and the experience was amazing.

Bandits Kidnap Travelers, Kill APC Chieftain, Along Kaduna-Abuja Highway

Bandits on Sunday kidnapped travelers along Kaduna-Abuja Highway, killing a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sagir Hammidu.

Hamidu who was a former director of Protocol in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), recently ran for the governorship position in Zamfara State and is said to also run for the seat come 2023 elections.

He was reportedly wounded fatally by bullets from the guns of the bandits, leaving several others injured.

Witnesses say the gunmen also kidnapped many travellers and carted away some valuables they could instantly lay their hands upon.

#EndSARS Report:Federal Govt Will Only Address Areas That Concerns It – Adesina

Presidential aide, Femi Adesina has disclosed that the Federal Government will only focus on the areas that concerns it as regards the EndSARS report.

As the date for official submission draws near, Adesina, on Monday, during an interview on Channels Television’s Breakfast Programme, Sunrise Daily explained steps which the Federal Government will take in handling the situation.

In his words he said: “Definitely, when the reports come out the ones that are Federal in nature will be considered. There are some things that would be Federal in nature, the Federal Government would tackle that but things that are state in nature, the state government will handle”.

Nigerian Politicians Fears Western Sanctions More Than Local Laws- Senator Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, has said that Nigerian Politicians fear western sanctions more than the local laws.

Sani mentioned this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics as regards the visit of the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

His comment came a few days after Blinken had during his two-day official visit to Nigeria said the report by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for the Victims of #EndSARS protest was critical and the United States was awaiting the actions which would be taken afterward.

According to Shehu, Blinken’s message to the country is very clear as the United States has the responsibility to intervene once a government uses security agencies to oppress its citizens.

Police Detains Professor For Defiling a 13-year old In Ebonyi

Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have arrested Professor Felix Anyaegbulam of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, for allegedly defiling a minor.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command DSP Loveth Odah, told newsmen on Sunday that the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter ahead of a medical screening/report of the victim.

When interrogated, the professor of Geophysics who was visibly shaky and apprehensive, initially denied all allegations against him but later admitted. He was said to have pleaded for peace and blamed everything on Satan.

Court Adjourns Arraignment Of Igboho’s Aides till January

The arraignment of Jamiu Oyetunji and Amudat Babatunde, two aides of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, was stalled on Monday, following the absence of an interpreter.

The Federal Government through the Department of State Service (DSS) is prosecuting Igboho’s aides on a 5-count terrorism charge.

When the case came up for hearing on Monday, counsel to the defendants, Pelumi Olajengbensi, informed the court that her clients do not understand the English language and need an interpreter.

Efforts by the court to get one was futile, a situation that forced the trial judge, Justice Obiorah Egwuatu, to adjourn to January 24, 2022, for arraignment.
