Unknown Gunmen Kill Two Police Officers In Katsina
Men suspected to be bandits on Thursday killed two officers of the Katsina State Police Command.
The deceased officers, ASP Yakubu Joshua, attached to 27 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Katsina and Sgt Zaharadeen Yuguda, attached to Safana Division, were killed in a crossfire with the bandits at their hideout at Baure village in Safana Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, who disclosed the incident on Friday, said the police team led by the Dutsima Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP, Aminu Umar were able to dislodge the hoodlums, killing two of them in the process and recovering one AK-47 rifle with 35 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, among other items.
Fashola addresses rumours of Tinubu’s presidential bid, tells Nigerians to wait till January 2022
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has asked Nigerians to wait till January 2022 for the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to declare whether he will be running for president in 2023 or not.
Fashola disclosed this during a monitored interview on Channels Television aired on Friday.
When he was asked if he will support the candidacy of the national leader of the APC in the 2023 election, Fashola said Tinubu has not informed him he is running in 2023.
Emirates Airline cancels bookings, places flights to, from Nigeria ‘on hold’
The United Arab Emirates, UAE’s largest airline and flag carrier, Emirates, has announced that “direct flight operation to and from Nigeria is still on hold.”
Flights had been suspended in March over a diplomatic row between Nigeria and the UAE over COVID-19 protocol
The UAE authorities had initially fixed June 23 for resumption of flights to Nigeria, but the suspension remains in place.
Bandits Kidnap Father Of Former Imo Deputy Governor
Eze Madumere, a Monarch, father of a former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has been kidnapped by gunmen. He was said to have been kidnapped at Iho Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
A resident of the town said the 89-year-old traditional ruler of Ezi–Mbieri Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area was reportedly ambushed on Friday by gunmen after sporadic shootings on his way to a funeral.
Confirming the incident, Prince Eze Madumere, the former Deputy Governor of the state, disclosed that his father’s abductors have contacted the family.
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Michael Abattam, when contacted also confirmed the incident and stressed that they have put machinery in place to arrest the culprits.
COVID-19 Fourth Wave: Lagos State Alert Citizens As Nigerians Abroad Return For Christmas
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has raised an alert for an imminent fourth wave of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
Abayomi, at a briefing on Friday, said passengers coming into the country from high-burdened countries may likely increase the spread of the virus.
The commissioner lamented the low vaccination rate in Nigeria, saying many countries had vaccinated more than 50 per cent of their eligible populations.
IMF Advices FG To Remove Fuel, Electricity Subsidies Early 2022
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has advised the Nigerian government to fully remove fuel and electricity completely early next year and move to a market-based pricing mechanism.
In a statement at the end of its 2021 Article IV Mission, the Fund said that with the emergence of fuel subsidies and slow progress on revenue mobilisation, Nigeria’s “fiscal outlook faces significant risks”.
It said that the continued reliance on administrative measures to address persistent foreign exchange shortages was negatively impacting confidence.
NAFDAC warns against purchase of unpacked cereals
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned the public against purchasing cereal or other products that have been removed from their primary packaging so as not to jeopardise their health.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC Director-General, gave the warning during a news briefing on Friday in Lagos.
Adeyeye said that the agency is so concerned because infants and children were the targets and the ultimate victims of such wicked and evil activities.

7 girls die in Jigawa As boat capsized
The Police Command in Jigawa has confirmed the death of seven girls in a boat mishap that occurred at River Gasanya, in Auyo Local Government Area of the state.
ASP Lawan Shiisu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, said this in a statement in Dutse on Friday.
Shiisu said the deceased, aged between 10 and 12, lost their lives after the boat conveying 10 of them capsised on Friday, at about 12:15 a.m.
He explained that the incident occurred after 10 girls were returning from Maulud celebration in Gafasa village in Kafinhausa LGA and decided to paddle the boat parked at the river bank. He however, said that three of the girls were rescued.
Security Officials rescue 544 abducted persons in Zamfara
Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, on Friday in Gusau, said security forces have rescued no fewer than 544 abducted persons in the last two months in the state.
Matawalle disclosed this while addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who attended the swearing-in ceremony of 21 political appointees, at the Government House.
He said that among those rescued were women, children, the aged, two students of Federal Government College Birnin Yauri in Kebbi, 18 students of College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura and 75 students of Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradum LGA.
The governor pledged that the war against bandits and other criminals will continue until the state is made safe for investments. He commended the security forces for forcing bandits groups from their hideouts and arresting many informants.
High Court Dismisses Money Laundering Charges Against Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday dismissed the money laundering charges preferred against Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The presiding judge, Justice Ambrose Lewis Allagoa, acquits Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia of the alleged crime, while granting the application to dismiss the charges, filed and argued by Olawale Akoni SAN, counsel to the Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia.
Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia was first arraigned on April 18, 2019, before Justice Rilwan Aikawa, alongside, Obla on an 18-count charge of unlawful enrichment, illegal concealment, corruption, forgery and giving false information to an official of the EFCC.
