Kidnapped Plateau Traditional Ruler Regains Freedom

Da Gyang Balak, the Gwom Rwei (District Head) of Vwang District of Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau, who was abducted by gunmen has regained freedom from his abductors.

Maj. Ishaku Takwa, the Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace in Plateau and environs, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, in Jos.

FirstNigeriaTv reports that gunmen on Sunday night kidnapped Balak along Jos-Vom road.

Takwa said immediately the incidence was reported, the commander of OPSH, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, placed the troops of Sector 6 in Riyom on red alert and they began to trail the perpetrators. He also said that the commander also advised Plateau residents to support security agencies in their bid to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

APC National Convention To Hold February 26 – Buni

The Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has announced that the national convention of the party will be held on February 26.

Buni made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while delivering a speech at the Progressives Women Congress held in Abuja.

FirstNigeriaTv recalls that the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) had met on Sunday in Abuja to deliberate on the forthcoming convention of the party.

However, after the meeting that lasted for hours, the Chairman of the Forum and the governor of Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu said the Caretaker committee, chaired by the Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni was the appropriate organ of the party to announce the convention date.

Fresh Voters registration hits 5m -INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says fresh registration in the third quarter of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) nationwide has hit 5,027,204 as at Monday.

INEC in its weekly update on CVR for Quarter 3, Week 2, in Abuja on Tuesday also disclosed that the registrants had completed online and physical registration.

This according to the updated statistics comprised 1,292,823 males, and 1,270,245 females, of which 24,129 of the figure were Persons Living With Disability (PWDS).

Newsmen also report that within the third quarter, INEC had received a total of 8,260,076 applications. The applications include voter transfer, requests for replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), as well as updates of voter information records among others. The applications include 4,416,828 males, 3,843,248 females and 84,319 PWDS across all categories.

FG Set To Launch 2 New Satellites

The Federal Government on Monday said all is set to launch two additional Satellites by the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, disclosed this during a facilities tour and interaction with Management team of NIGCOMSAT in Abuja.

“I recently approved two subsidiaries of NIGCOMSAT LTD and I am here to supervise what they have been doing.“I have discovered some areas where we need to work to improve their performance significantly,” he said.

Pantami also said that for the agency not to be considered for privatisation again it must provide quality service and generate good revenue. He also said the visit was to motivate and encourage the staff members on core values which were the guiding principles that must be adopted without compromise to ensure that the organisation succeeded.

Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Rose To 15.63% In December 2021

Nigeria’s inflation rate rose to 15.6 percent in December 2021, after recording eight months consecutive decline in 2021.

This represents 0.2 percent point rise when compared with 15.4 percent recorded in November 2021.

The rise in the inflation rate comes after the consumer price index, (CPI) dropped for eight consecutive months between April and November 2021. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed the development on Monday in its consumer price index, (CPI) report for December 2021.

According to the Bureau, the food price index also rose by 0.16 percent points to 17.37 percent from 17.21 percent in November 2021.

Bello celebrates first Kogi female air commodore

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, on Monday in Abuja, received Air Commodore Halima Musa, first female Kogi indigene to have attained such rank in the Nigerian Air Force.

Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Mr Onogwu Muhammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

The statement quoted Bello as expressing joy and congratulating Musa on the elevation, stating that she had made the state and the nation proud.

The governor, who has large chunk of female appointees in his government, noted that women had contributed immensely to development of the country, hence the need to give them more opportunities to thrive.

PDP Governors Ask Buhari To Restructure Nigeria’s Security Architecture

Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure Nigeria’s security architecture.

The demand is part of outcome of the resolutions of the governors’ meeting in held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Monday.

In a communique issued to newsmen at the end of the meeting, the Governors decried the spate of insecurity across the country.

The communique, which was read by the Sokoto Governor and Chairman of the forum, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, also condemned the strategies deployed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government in confronting the numerous security challenges across the country.

Buhari Celebrates Felix Ohiwerei At 85

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated former Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Elder Felix Ohiwerei, as he marks his 85th birthday on January 18, 2022.

The president, in a release issued on Monday by his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina, congratulated Ohiwerei for his historic service in the corporate world, and now, full dedication to working for God and growth of the church.

President Buhari noted the contributions of the corporate leader, administrator and renowned boardroom guru to the development of the country, working variously with Unilever, London, UAC Foods, and Virgin Nigeria and chairing some public institutions.

President Buhari prayed for good health for the former Chairman of the Nigerian Breweries Plc. and welfare of his family.

Zamfara To Take New Approach To Tackle InSecurity

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle says a new approach would be applied towards finding a lasting solution to the insecurity problem troubling the State.

Matawalle gave the assurance on Monday, while speaking to State House Correspondents, after holding a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle says a new approach would be applied towards finding a lasting solution to the insecurity problem troubling the State.

Buhari Felicitates With Emeka Anyaoku At 89

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, on his 89th birthday.

Anyaoku, a foremost International diplomat will be 89, on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

In a message, the President joined family and friends to celebrate with the “diplomat, whose contributions to Nigeria and the international community will continue to stand out. He affirmed that the diplomat, who started as a Foreign Service Officer, has “consistently followed and projected the wellbeing of his country, working assiduously to build his local community and staying vocal in counselling leaders on way forward”.

He prayed that the Almighty God will continue to strengthen the renowned international diplomat and his family.
