Sanwo-Olu Commissions Multi-Level Car Park to Tackle Traffic in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the Onikan multi-level car pack to tackle the traffic jam in Lagos Island.

This was disclosed in a statement made by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile on Wednesday, stating that the initiative was birthed in June 2013 when the incumbent Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, was Commissioner for Works.

The multi-level car park and facility building consist of five car parking floors with a capacity for 384 vehicles with offices for tickets and restrooms on each floor.

Sanwo-Olu said the building will service the renovated Onikan stadium and other primary social centres, such as Island Club, Yoruba Tennis Club, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, King George V Park, Police Command Recreational Centre as well as other facilities in the environs.

Ortom Criticizes Direct Primaries, Says Process Easier To Manipulate

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has criticized the choice of direct primaries as the sole means of parties to select their candidates as proposed in the 2010 Electoral Act Amendment Bill, recently passed by the National Assembly.

This he addressed at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, saying that unlike the indirect primary, which can be monitored closely and manipulation resisted by interested parties, there will hardly be enough eyes on the venue of the direct primary process.

The Governor called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reject the Electoral Act Amendment Bill recently passed by the National Assembly and allowed political parties to decide the mode of selecting their candidates for elections.

Police Arrest Six Suspects Connected To Murder Of OAU Student

Six people suspected to be linked to the murder of a master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have been arrested by the Police.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, disclosed this in a statement and said that the student was declared missing on November 7 when friends and family members could not reach him and he was found dead.

The victim Timothy Adegoke, an Abuja-based student, had travelled to Ife on November 5 to take an examination at the school’s distance learning center in Moro, Osun State.

The Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, assured the general public, especially the family of the deceased, students and management of Obafemi Awolowo University that, the state police command is working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.

Buhari Celebrates Ex-NBA President Wole Olanipekun At 70

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday celebrate foremost Nigerian lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun on the occasion of his 70th birthday, November 18, 2021.

In a statement, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president commended the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), for replicating himself in his four biological offspring, who are all lawyers.

He wishes Chief Olanipekun longer life in good health, and greater service to God, and to humanity.

EndSARS: UN Urges Action On Lagos Panel Report

The United Nations (UN) has urged the Federal and Lagos State governments to implement the recommendations of the report of the Panel of Inquiry on Police brutality and other related matters.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon. He said the report of the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution is welcomed.

He noted that the submission of the findings of the judicial panel would accelerate the process of justice and accountability.

He further urge the government to implement the recommendations of the judicial panel of inquiry to rebuild trust and start the process of healing and reconciliation.

Cute Abiola is in our Custody- Nigerian Navy

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed that Cute Abiola is not missing as earlier reported and has released a statement concerning the whereabouts of the popular Instagram comedian.

In a statement released by the military organisation on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, it stated that the comedian who is also its personnel was detained for disobeying its orders.⁣

Part of the statement reads:

“The Nigerian Navy debunked the reports that the military officer was missing.⁣It also advised all its personnel to obey the policies guiding the military organisation.⁣”

Buhari Presides Over FEC Meeting At Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over a virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Conference Room of the First Lady’s office, Aso Rock, Abuja.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno; and Permanent Secretary, State House, Umar Tijani; are  physically present at the meeting.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan and other Ministers are attending virtually from their various offices in Abuja, while some other ministers were present too.

5 feared dead in fire accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, says five people died in the early hours of Wednesday as a petrol tanker burst into flames on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

This was confirmed in a statement by the state Sector Commander, Mr Ahmed Umar issued to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Umar said that the accident occurred at 4:46 a.m near Tunji Alegi Filling Station, Kwakyama area, Ogere.

He also said that the cause of the accident could be wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving on the part of the petrol tanker driver.

Sani Dangote laid to rest in Kano

Thousands of Muslims attended the funeral of late Alhaji Sani Dangote, the Deputy President, Dangote Group of Companies, held in Kano on Wednesday.

The funeral prayer was held at the palace of the Emir of Kano at about 11a.m., and was led by Imam Sani Muhammad.

The funeral prayer was attended by Senate President, Ahmad Lawal, Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero and some other politicians and ministerial officials.

Late Sani was buried at Sarari graveyard, where deceased members of Dantata family are buried.
