BREAKING: Sunday Igboho, Akintoye, others drag Buhari, Malami others to ICC

The Leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye; Yoruba Nation Agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho and other 49 Yoruba Self-Determination groups have filed a 27-page petition before the International Criminal Court (ICC). Several leaders of Yoruba Self-Determination groups appended their signatures on the petition signed.

In the petition, that was at the ICC on behalf of Yourba leaders by an International Lawyer, Aderemilekun Omojola, some Nigerian leaders were accused of genocide and crimes against humanity against the Yoruba People of Ekiti, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Okun Land in Kogi, and Kwara States respectively.

The 27-page petition accused Buhari, Malami, Buratai and others of genocide offences such as killing members of the petitioners group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about physical destruction in whole or in part.

The ICC has has formally acknowledged receipt of the petition.

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration is ready to use everything within its powers to end insecurity in the country and bring perpetrators of criminal activities to book.

The President, who spoke on Tuesday at a dinner with members of the National Assembly, held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, said ‘‘insecurity, manifesting as insurgencies, banditry, kidnapping and urban crime of all sorts is the single most difficult challenge we face today.’’

He expressed concern that insecurity had inhibited government’s ability to build infrastructure, provide the much needed social services to the people, and to attract investments that drive innovation, create industries, and provide jobs and create wealth.

President Buhari also used the occasion to hail the ninth National Assembly for discharging their legislative duties with maturity and competence, describing the legislature as ‘‘full partners in national development.” He commended the Leadership of the National Assembly and he looked forward to continuous collaboration and partnership to achieve a peaceful and prosperous Country

EFCC sends strong warning to hotels owners

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sent a strong warning to owners and operators of hotels. They warned hoteliers from allowing their premises and facilities to become havens for cybercriminals.

The warning comes on the heels of a sting operation operatives of the EFCC carried out at Parkitonian Hotel in the Lekki area of Lagos State. A team of operatives from the Lagos Zonal Office of the Commission, acting on verified intelligence on the activities of a suspected syndicate of internet fraudsters at the Hotel

30 suspects were arrested with 24 of them already confessing involvement in cybercrimes and related activities, the EFCC stated.

Identity card for all residents, renewable every 5 years- Lagos State Govt


The Lagos State Government is set to roll out the New Lagos Identity Card, “LAG ID” for residents of the State.

The card which is renewable every 5 years contains a chip that has multipurpose uses and can be accepted anywhere in the world.

Ms Fashola, the Permanent Secretary made this known and also revealed that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the successful rollout of the card as she encouraged all enrolment officers to be proactive and show commitment to achieving the registration of 100 residents per day. She was confident that the target of registering 10 million residents before the end of the year can be achieved.

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria loses about 26.3 billion dollars annually to various forms of criminality particularly piracy and sea robbery.

The president said that in recent years, some threats within Nigeria’s maritime environment had taken more harmful dimensions to the economy and even the safety of citizens and commercial entities which used the maritime domain.

Buhari said that his administration had demonstrated a clear commitment to building the capacity of Nigeria’s strategic institutions to secure its coastal waters and the precincts of its maritime neighbourhood.

Government Announces Three-Day Public Holiday For Eid-ul-Adha

Federal Government Pakistan on Tuesday announced three-day Eid-ul-Adha (Eidul Azha) public holiday from July 20 to 22.

The public holiday announcement was made after the meeting of the federal cabinet where several important decisions were taken.

The Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry briefed the media about the coronavirus situation in the country and said that the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) had proposed five holidays but the cabinet has approved only three.

Reports have it that the Interior Ministry had sent a summary to the prime minister, suggesting a four-day holiday on Eidul Azha.

72 dead in South Africa’s Zuma riots, worst violence in decades

As many as 72 people have died in South Africa, following days of protest over the jailing of former President Jacob Zuma.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) which gave the figure of casualties late Tuesday also 1,234 people have been arrested .

Security officials said the government was working to halt the spread of the violence and looting, which has spread from Zuma’s home in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province to the country’s biggest city Johannesburg and surrounding Gauteng province, and to the Indian Ocean port city of Durban.

Zuma, 79, was sentenced last month for defying a constitutional court order to give evidence at an inquiry investigating high-level corruption during his nine years in office until 2018.

Nigerian Govt Commissions Electric Vehicle Charging Station In Lagos

The Federal Government has commissioned first solar-powered electric vehicle charging station at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The project is the initiative of the National Automotive Design and Development Agency (NADDC), under the Elective Vehicle Pilot Project.

The commissioning, which took place on Tuesday at the university’s Faculty of Engineering, was attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo.

Others were NADDC Board Chairman, Senator Osita Izunaso; NADDC Director-General, Jelani Aliyu; UNILAG VC, Prof. Oluwatowin Ogundipe; Chief Executive Officer of Stallion Group, Anant Badjatya, among others.

Breaking: APC Suspends Rochas Okorocha

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State.

According to a letter dated July 12, 2021 and signed by Governor Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Okorocha was suspended due to alleged anti-party activities.

He was accused of holding meeting with the opposition party both at federal and state levels.

Okorocha was also accused of working against the imo State APC.

The letter reads in part, “The suspension follows after the recommendation by the Imo State Disciplinary Committee set up to investigate allegations of gross anti-party activities against you which is in line with Article 21 (B) I-VI of our party’s constitution.”

Colonel Abubakar Umar (rtd), a former Military Administrator of Kaduna State, has blamed the current government under President Muhammadu Buhari for separatist agitations threatening the country’s unity.

Umar, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday titled: ‘Nigeria; A Nation Challenged, ‘insisted that the current administration under Buhari has failed to unite Nigeria.

He also criticized the federal government for undue attention to threats of separatist movements in contrast to the more daunting threats posed by kidnappers, bandits and insurgents in the Northern region of the country, adding that the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is of no serious consequence.

Three feared killed, others injured as NAF operatives clash with touts in Lagos market

There was chaos on Tuesday at the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos after operatives of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) clashed with some touts in the area.

According to reports of three persons were feared killed and many others injured. The three persons were said to have been hit by stray bullets around midday.

Although the cause of the clash was yet to be ascertained, however eyewitness said the NAF officials had a disagreement with some of the touts who charge a fee for parking.

It was gathered as the scuffle got heated, the operatives fired sporadic gunshots to scare the touts but the bullets hit three people who were not connected to the fight. In no time, the issue degenerated leTotading to the setting ablaze of the Toyota Hilux vehicle the operatives rode in.

At the time of this report, more troops have been deployed to the market to restore peace.

Lawmaker who sponsored media amendment bills backtracks, gives reasons

Olusegun Odebunmi,the lawmaker representing Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency in Oyo State, who sponsored the bills for amendments of laws establishing the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Nigeria Press Council (NPC), has stated the legislative process on the bills has been suspended for further consultations.

He spoke following widespread protests by the print media against the media regulation bill being debated at the House of Representatives. The Nation reports all major newspapers on Monday published cover page public notice titled “Information blackout”.

Widespread criticisms greeted the move by the House of Representatives to amend the laws establishing NPC and NBC.

Odebunmi, who is also chairman of the Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, spoke on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday monitored by The Nation.

BIZARRE! Corpses litter ground in Yobe community after heavy downpour submerges graveyard

A heavy downpour on Sunday night submerged a graveyard in Yobe State, throwing up buried corpses at the cemetery.

According to reports, the cemetery is located near a low-cost Housing Estate in Gashua town of Bade local government area.

NDLEA uncovers drug cartels in Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue states

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has discovered three drug cartels allegedly supplying illicit substances to some states.

The agency also recovered skunk and cocaine weighing more than 843 kilogrammes.NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi announced the discovery in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.Babafemi said that the operatives also arrested no fewer than seven of the drug kingpins behind the syndicates in separate raids in Kogi, Nasarawa State and Benue.He said that the arrest was made as the offenders attempted to evade the frequent road interdiction efforts by officers of the Kogi command of the agency.

He also said that the cartels were intercepted on July 12 at a jetty in Idah, Kogi, in a car marked Lagos SMK 345 CG, loaded with 487 kilogrammes of cannabis.“In Nasarawa State, a team of NDLEA operatives had on July 8 raided one of the most hostile drug joints in the state capital.“More than 356 kilogrammes of cannabis and various psychotropic substances were recovered.
