Buhari Govt. working to tackle banditry, insurgency – APC
Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday in Abuja assured Nigerians that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is working to tackle banditry and insurgency in the country.
Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, the National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), gave the assurance in a statement while reacting to the resent killings in Zamfara by bandits.
The APC scribe, while condemning the development, said the party was deeply pained by the killings of innocent Nigerians in their villages in Zamfara by criminal gangs also known as bandits.
He, however, noted that despite the development, the Buhari government had been steadfast in retooling the Armed Forces.
Akeredolu vows to hunt Ondo community perpetrators
Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Sunday visited Omolege Junction, near Ute in Ose Local Government Area where gunmen on Thursday night killed three people and razed down buildings in the community.
The governor’s visit is contained in a statement made available on Sunday in Akure by Mr Richard Olatunde his Chief Press Secretary.
Akeredolu, who commiserated with the people over the incident, particularly the death of community head, said no government would be happy with the killings of its people.
The Governor, while describing the attack on the community as unfortunate, vowed that concerted efforts would be made to ensure that such attack did not reoccur in the state.
Public Schools To Operate Only Four Working Days – Kaduna Govt
As schools resume for the 2020/2021 academic session, Kaduna State Government has directed all public schools in the state to operate only four working days a week, between Monday to Thursday instead of the usual five working days.
The directive was given by the state Commissioner for Education, Halima Lawal, in a notice for school resumption for the second term of the 2021/2022 academic session.
As a result, the commissioner explained that the 2021/2022 academic calendar would be adjusted to ensure coverage of the curriculum for the academic session. She also informed all parents, guardians, and the public to note that the state government has approved January 10 as the resumption date for the second term of the 2021/2022 academic session.
The directive to public schools comes five weeks after the state government migrated to a four-day working week for all civil servants.
Six Dead As NCDC Announce 537 New COVID-19 Cases
Six more people have died of complications related to COVID-19, The Nigerian Center for Disease Control reported ok Monday.
The NCDC revealed this while giving an update on the management of the disease in the country, saying 537 more cases have been confirmed.
Following the new infections reported, Nigeria has now confirmed a total of 248,312 since it reported its first case in February 2020. Of the cases confirmed, 218,997 people who initially tested positive have been discharged and 3,077 deaths have been recorded in all 36 states and the FCT.
While the NCDC said it has collected and tested a total of 3,863,081 samples, the country has 26,238 COVID-19 cases that are still active.

Lagos Nurses Suspends Planned Strike After Meeting With Gov. Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with members of the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives, Lagos State Council at the State House, Marina.
FirstNigeriaTV reports that the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Lagos State Council, had ordered its members to embark on a three-day warning strike from January 10, over poor condition of service. The Governor had called the meeting to address the grievances raised by the NANNM
At the end of the two hours meeting on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu pledged government’s sincerity in the implementation of all that was agreed on, to the delight of the representatives of the nurses.
On his part, chairman, Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Olurotimi Awojide thanked Sanwo-Olu for acceding to most of their requests. He described the governor as a true leader and father who cares about his children.
3 police officers die in Abuja auto crash
fewer than three police officers lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred along Kubwa-Zuba expressway, opposite popular Gwarinpa Estate in Abuja.
The incident involved men of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Nigerian Police.
An eyewitness simply identified as Musa said that the accident occurred when one of the tyres of the speeding police van burst. He explained that the Police Hilux van suddenly veered off the road and entered the drainage where three officers among the occupants died instantly, leaving others seriously injured.
When contacted, the spokesperson of FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), described the incident as sad.
Man Arrested For Killing Concubine’s Husband In Ogun
Police in Ogun State have arrested a 38-year-old commercial driver for allegedly stabbing one Emaka Umonko, with a knife to death.
Umonko had accused the suspect, Daniel Udoh of having illicit affairs with his wife. This enraged the suspect who in the heat of a fight took out a knife and struck the deceased to death. He was said to have stabbed him severally on the chest and back before the victim collapse and gave up the ghost
Following this, a call was made to DPO Onipanu divisional headquarters that a commercial driver killed a man who accused him of sleeping with his wife.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday. He said that upon the distress call, the DPO Onipanu division CSP Bamidele Job quickly detailed his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
Osinbajo Attends ECOWAS Extraordinary Meeting in Accra
Nigeria’s Vice-president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has arrived in Accra, Ghana, to represent President Muhammadu Buhari at an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The meeting, which will be attended by leaders across the region, follows previous meetings and efforts by the leaders to resolve the situations in Mali and Guinea.
Osinbajo was received at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, by Nigeria High Commissioner in Ghana, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas and Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Ghanaian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
The vice president was also saluted by the Guard of Honour at the airport before proceeding to the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra venue of the summit. The meeting is a follow up to the visit of ECOWAS mediator, former President Goodluck Jonathan to Mali on 5 January.
Gunmen Shoot Dead Self-Exiled Monarch Shot dead by GuIn Benue
The traditional ruler and District Head of Edikwu community in Apa Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state, Chief Stephen Ochekwu has been shot dead by armed men.
Spokesperson of the Benue Police Command, SP, Catherine Anene, who confirmed the development, said the royal father was shot at his residence where he had been living on self imposed exile in Ugbokpo, the Apa LG Headquarters.

Before his gruesome murder, Chief Ochekwu who since 2014 was on self-imposed exiled and resided in Ugbokpo over a prolonged chieftaincy dispute in his community was recently reinstated to his position after being suspended from office by the state government in 2020 following the protracted crisis and killings in his domain.
Buhari To Launch Ijebu-Ode/Epe Expressway January 13
President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday, January 13, embark on an official State visit to Ogun State.
Kunle Somorin, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abiodun, in a statement on Sunday said during the visit, the President will inaugurate some of the infrastructural projects executed by Governor Dapo Abiodun, including the newly reconstructed Ijebu-Ode/Epe expressway.
President Buhari will be welcomed at the Gateway City Gate Monument Park, Sagamu Interchange, at 10a.m, where he will commission the first project.
The statement added that apart from the Gateway City Gate, other projects expected to be inaugurated along with the Ijebu-Ode Mojoda-Epe expressway, include two housing estates: the 527-unit low & medium Kobape Housing scheme Kobape and the highbrow, 83 duplexes at Kings Court Estate at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
All invited guests are expected to be seated by 9.30a.m at the City Gate by the Sagamu Interchange and Abeokuta expressway, while observing all COVID-19 safety protocols strictly.
People who mocked my ministry have gotten leprosy – Bishop Oyedepo
Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel has said speaking against men of God can attract leprosy and that many critics of his ministry have been victims of the warning.
FirstNigeriaTv reports Bishop Oyedepo made this known during the Leadership Empowerment Summit at the church’s headquarters, Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State.
Oyedepo, who said there was no data to back his claim, however, warned Christians to deviate from criticizing their prophets, saying such attitude attracts dangerous punishment from God.
