The Lagos State Government has clarified reports that it has imposed dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state starting from Sunday to allow the state carry out comprehensive disinfection of its metropolis.

The state Governor, Babajide-Sanwo-Olu had said during a press briefing that statewide curfew will begin from 8pm to 6am, starting from Sunday until further notice. The governor also mentioned that traveling in and out of Lagos would be restricted on Sunday, adding that all inter-state motor parks should shut down for two weeks.

In recent developments, however, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, has clarified that, the curfew is no longer necessary as it has been discovered that the disinfectant is non toxic and would not be harmful.

He said, “It’s true that the Governor gave these directives to enable the state disinfect its metropolis but relying on experts advice, it was discovered that the disinfectant is non toxic. As I speak with you, the exercise has commenced,”

“Just as the Governor said during the live press conference, we have taken possession of over 200 disinfecting machines, and we have started disinfecting all major highways, bus stops, markets, parks and other public areas.”

“For now, no curfew in the state, but Lagosians should please stay safe.” he concluded.

Meanwhile, The Sanwo-Olu Government, has commenced the implementation of a stimulus package that encompasses taking food to the doorsteps of millions of residents in Nigeria’s most populous and boisterous city, Lagos.

As record has shown so far, Lagos is the epicenter of Nigeria’s novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 52 of Nigeria’s current 81 confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu had therefore declared a partial lockdown of Lagos this week, affecting all non-essential shops – those not selling food, water or medicine – in a bid to stem the spread of the pandemic in the sprawling market megalopolis near Nigeria’s Atlantic Ocean Coast.

Hence, the Governor has now commenced plans to kick-off the distribution of food supplies to homes as a way of cushioning the effect of the lockdown.

“I am happy to announce an economic stimulus package to help our residents cushion the effects of our #StayAtHome directive to stop the spread of #COVID19.

“This first stage is targeting 200,000 households at an estimation of 6 people per household. We hope to rap it up quickly.

“The stimulus package will contain bags of rice, beans, garri, bread, dry pepper, drinking water and vitamins. We want each ration to last for 14 days as we continue to evaluate the impact of #COVID19.

“Please stay home with your loved ones. We want the best for you,” the Governor shared on his twitter page.
