3 Die, 3 Injured In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Auto Crash

Three persons have died in an auto crash that occurred around Isaara bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State. Three other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident.

The crash involved a Volkswagen Sharan with the registration number: GGE175FM and a Mack truck with no registration number.

The Superintendent Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Tuesday. He said that the cause of the auto crash was as a result of over speeding on the part of the Volkswagen driver, who lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the parked truck obstructing the road.

She said that the accident involved six occupants, where three persons including two males and one female sustained injuries while the three other persons, two males and one female, died on the spot.

Atiku Abubakar’s Wife Jennifer Explains Why She Divorced Him

One of the wives of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Jennifer Abubakar, nee Douglas, has divorced the former presidential candidate under the People’s Democratic Party.

Jennifer on Monday issued a statement where she stated the real reasons she divorced him, contrary to the news making the rounds that she divorced him for marrying a Moroccan wife in 2019 or over asset sharing.

In her clarification, Jennifer said, the divorce isn’t about his new wife as he is a Moslem. Besides, she has never questioned him about his wives or intends to.

Jennifer insists that she divorced him over disagreements with her continued stay in the United Kingdom, to look after her children and several other long-standing issues.

Hoodlums Vandalise, Raze Atiku Campaign Office, PDP Secretariat In Gombe

The Gombe State campaign office of former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly been vandalised and burnt by suspected political thugs. The campaign office is situated near Investment Quarters, about eight kilometres away from the Gombe metropolis.

FirstNigeriaTv gathered that the arsonists had carted away office properties, including air conditioners and other valuables, before setting the office on fire.

In a similar development, the Gombe State secretariat of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was also burnt. According to eyewitnesses, the suspects stormed the party secretariat, located along Bauchi Road, around 1:30am.

While personnel of the state fire service with assistance from men of the Nigerian Police Force helped extinguish the fire at the PDP Secretariat, there was no such intervention for the Atiku office, which burnt down completely. The state chairman of the PDP, Audu Kwaskebe, while speaking with journalists, accused the Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, Mr Kawu Lero, of spearheading the attack.

UNICEF welcomes release of 4 abducted Chibok girls

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has welcomed the release of four of the 22 women recently abducted by insurgents in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno.


FirstNigeriaTv reports that 22 women and two men were abducted by insurgents in three separate attacks on Pemi, Kautikari and Korohuma areas of Chibok last month.


A statement by Information Officer, UNICEF Maiduguri Field Office, Folashade Adebayo, said the organisation has urged for the immediate release of all captives.


“UNICEF is very relieved for the released girls and their families. After their harrowing experience, it is good news that the girls are back with their families and friends, where they belong.

FG vows to take legal action against Ukrainian varsity over death of Nigerian student

The Federal government has said it is exploring options of taking up the issue of alleged negligence against a Ukrainian university over the death of a Nigerian student, Fadlullah Agboluaje. The deceased Fadlullah Agboluaje, a Nigerian student had arrived in Lviv, Ukraine on January 8, 2022, and was reported dead, a day later.

Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa said this during a visit to the deceased student’s family in Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

Dabiri-Erewa in a statement by NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations and Protocol, Gabriel Odu said Nigerian authorities in Ukraine are providing assistance to disclose issues that led to the student’s death.

Odu disclosed that: “a preliminary autopsy report indicates that Fadlullah died of pneumonia due to effect of extreme cold weather.”

Sad! How Assassins Hacked FIRS staff to death in Lagos

Suspected assassins have brutally murdered Mrs Ibironke Oluremi Adefila, a senior staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Ikorodu area of Lagos.

Adefila was reportedly on her way to work in the early hours of Friday, January 28, 2022, when she was accosted by the heavily armed assailants, opposite Awalu group of schools, Powerline Area in Laketu, Ikorodu.

According to an eyewitness (name withheld), one of the armed men was heard saying, “That’s her, that’s her” and immediately they pounced on her with machetes, axe and knife. By the time Adefila was rushed to the hospital by some residents, she had lost a lot of blood, having suffered severe cuts on different parts of her body including her head and spine which eventually lead t her death.

Lamenting, a relative of the family of the victim, Alaba Jobi said, “what made the crime even more shocking and heartbreaking was that she was to attend a party that same day in the office which was organised to honour her having been promoted to a new level in her office. “Another surprise was that none of her personal belongings was stolen, neither were any of her body parts missing.”

Former Sen. Ben Murray Bruce loses mum

Senator, Ben Murray Bruce has been thrown into a state of mourning, as he lost his mum today, February 1.

The Senator took to his social media account and disclosed that his gem of inestimable value, support system, and best friend is gone.

He wrote, “Life. Indeed, like sand in the wind, today it’s here, tomorrow it’s gone. My mum is gone. She died at 4:40 am this morning. My gem of inestimable value, my support system, my best friend, my everything—she’s gone.

My consolation is that in her lifetime, I gave her not just everything that money could buy, but most importantly, I gave her my presence, my time, my everything. On uncountable occasions, I will go to her house to hug her and play with her for no reason but love, the kind that only sons share with their mums. I love you, mum, and I miss you. This one hurts so bad. Forever yours.”

WAEC Finally Release Withheld Results Of ‘Exonerated’ 2020, 2021 Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has released the results of candidates exonerated of malpractice  during its West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), held in 2020 and 2021.

The results were earlier withheld pending the outcome of investigations.

The Council in a communique issued at the end of the 72nd meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee, also authorised the cancellation of results of candidates proven to have been involved in malpractice.

The report released by the body also stated that some Supervisors were found wanting in the discharge of their examination duties and would be formally reported to their employers and blacklisted while some invigilators will also be reported to the appropriate authorities for disciplinary action.

Buhari Kicks-Off N62.1bn HIV Trust Fund

President Muhammadu Buhari has launched a N62.1 billion fund to improve efforts towards sustaining the country’s HIV response, addressing killer diseases and public health emergencies. The Trust Fund was launched at an event at the state house on Tuesday.

The President said he was hopeful that the private sector-led initiative will surpass the N62 billion target in the next five years, in order to adequately provide requisite treatment for HIV-positive mothers while contributing to closing the funding gap for HIV in Nigeria.

The private sector-led funding for the HIV Trust fund of Nigeria is expected to crystalise a sustainable financial mechanism for the mobilisation and deployment of domestic private sector resources, particularly aimed at preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV in the country.

According to the Executive Director, Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Ms Winnie Byanyima, a total of 1.7 million Nigerians are living with HIV, while 1.6 million of that figure are on treatment. She further noted that there is an urgent need to scale up domestic funding as Nigeria leads with the highest number of HIV infections among children.

Governors console victims of Zamfara banditry, donates N20m

The North East Governors Forum on Monday donated N20 million to victims of banditry in Anka and Bukkuyum local government areas of Zamfara.

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno presented the cheque to Gov. Bello Matawalle on Monday in Government House Gusau.

Zulum who expressed sadness over the incident called on the traditional and religious leaders as well as the people of the state to embark on consistent prayers to end the menace. He described the incident that led to the killing of 58 persons in eight communities of Anka and Bukuyum local government areas as devastating.

Zulum noted with concern the alarming rate of banditry and kidnapping in Zone and called for collaboration between the government and the people to end the situation.
