A devastating fire broke out at the new Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) Tank Farm, formerly OVH, located on Kayode Street, Marine Beach, Apapa, Lagos, on Friday morning.

The inferno, which started around 11 am, sent people running for safety as they attempted to contain the fire before rescue teams arrived.

According to eyewitness account, people around tried to contain the fire outbreak before the rescue team arrived.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was led by Director Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), who confirmed the incident and assured the public that “concerted effort with various emergency responders within the oil and gas industry is on to contain the situation.”

The fire is believed to have resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the terminal. Reassuring the public, Adeseye said, “The public is hereby assured that the emergency operation is under control from escalating further.”
