The Federal Government has blamed the inconsistent power supply in Abuja and other regions of the country on the dry season’s reduced hydro capacity.

Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, stated this during the weekly ministerial briefing on Thursday.

Overload on the nation’s power plants, maintenance work in the country’s eastern area, and issues at the Okoloma Gas Station, he stated, have prevented the units from attaining optimum supply.

According to him, the government is working under the Siemens Presidential Power Initiatives to provide an optimal gas supply in order to assist the restoration of power as quickly as possible.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), according to the minister, distributes roughly 8,000 megawatts per day and has a total installed capacity of 18,000 megawatts. This comes as he promised to deal with distribution firms (DISCOS) implicated in meter racketeering, despite the fact that he insisted on free meter procurement.

Aliyu further stated that the government is speeding up the installation of 10 power transformers and ten more mobile substations to increase electricity supply around the country.

He promised Nigerians that power service would improve dramatically across the country.
