The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has stated on Saturday that it has no plan to attack Lagos State ahead of the March 18, governorship election.

IPOB’s assurance comes against the backdrop of an allegation by a group of Delta Igbos, that the outlawed group had deployed a Special Squad to cause mayhem in Lagos.

In a statement by IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the separatist group asked Nigerians not to pay attention to the “false” claim.

The group said it would never attack the southwest state because “IPOB is a non-violent group” seeking only the freedom of the people of Eastern region through a referendum.

IPOB’s statement partly reads: “We would have ignored this fake information from these traitors, but it’s obvious that they are working with the enemies who are recently promoting Igbophobia in Lagos.

“For the avoidance of doubt, IPOB is not and can never be a party to Nigerian politics. IPOB members are not interested in Nigerian politics and can’t be used as political thugs. IPOB will never attack any region, person, or tribe for any reason unless threatened. IPOB has never had any record of violence in all our rallies across the world.”

Tensions have risen in Lagos since the February 25 presidential election where a candidate of Igbo extraction, Peter Obi, defeated a former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu in the state.
