EFCC Recovers N30 Billion in Probe of Suspended Minister, Betta Edu

A sum of N30 billion has been recovered in the ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), around suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu. and the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Authority (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Edu and Shehu amid allegations of financial misappropriation months back. The Social Investment Programme was equally suspended by the president, who also directed the EFCC to spearhead an investigation into the embattled officials.

Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, provided insights into the agency’s progress in the March edition of their monthly e-magazine, EFCCAlert. He shared the meticulous approach taken in accordance with existing laws and regulations. Olukoyede confirmed that the recovered funds, now in the federal government’s coffers, was over N30 billion.

Acknowledging the complexity of the case, Olukoyede urged patience from the Nigerian populace, citing the multifaceted nature of the investigation. He stated the need for thoroughness, citing numerous leads and the scrutiny of over 50 bank accounts implicated in the probe.
