A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced renowned crossdresser personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky to six months in prison without the option of a fine.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro had on April 5, 2024, convicted Bobrisky on charges of abuse and mutilation of Naira notes, following his arrest and arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The sentencing date was set subsequently after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to four counts of tampering with N490,000 by spraying, as per the charges brought against him by the EFCC.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Awogboro stated that the ruling aimed to deter others from engaging in similar acts of disrespect towards the Nigerian currency.

The court further decreed that the prison term would commence from March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest.

Notably, a scene played out in the courtroom before the pronouncement of the sentence. During proceedings, the Judge had queried Bobrisky about his gender, to which he promptly responded that he identifies as a male.
