Gunmen have abducted the sister of former Minister of Power and APC Oyo governorship aspirant, Bayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to a family statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. The victim, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, was reportedly on her way to drop her children at school when she was attacked and forcefully taken away along with the twins, Peter and Paul.
The family described Mrs. John-Paul as the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu and noted that she recently retired from service at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before relocating to Ibadan with her children.
The statement further confirmed that security agencies have been notified and have already commenced investigations and rescue operations aimed at securing the safe return of the victims and apprehending those responsible.
The family expressed deep distress over the incident but said they remain hopeful and confident in the ability of security operatives to rescue the victims safely. They also appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from spreading unverified information that could affect ongoing security efforts.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing.
