The Director-General of the agency, Dr Ifedayo Adetifa, have disclosed that Lassa fever outbreak has claimed 123 lives since the beginning of the year.
He disclosed this during the ministerial press briefing in Abuja. He said, “As of last week, Nigeria recorded 659 confirmed cases of Lassa fever over 23 states with a CFR of 18.7%.”
He said Nigeria has had almost 250, 000 COVID-19 cases and more than 3100 deaths since the outbreak in the country but in the last 3weeks there had been no cases of Covid-19.
The NCDC DG said the agency was also keeping an eye on the Cerebrospinal Meningitis outbreaks on the borders in the north and also investigating reports in Zamfara.
Dr Chukwuma Anyaike, National Coordinator, National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme at the Federal Ministry of Health said there was need for the country to expand its TB diagnostic coverage.
