Alhaji Usman Bugaje at the Northern Leaders Conference has said that it is only the northern part of the country that can lay claim to ownership of Nigeria’s crude oil.
He is of the opinion that no state in the country should be referred to as an oil producing state since 72% of the total land space of Nigeria belongs to the North and it is this that confers the oil producing capability on the country.
The mileage that Nigeria has into the sea, according to him, is because of the 72% occupation by the North which qualifies the region to lay claim to the produced oil, and the only oil producing state is Nigeria itself, as an entity.
