Parts of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, was plunged into chaos, Monday, as members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed with the Ogun State Parks and Garages Management Board (OGSPAM) over revenue collection
Security personnel were deployed to the Brewery motor park to quell the unrest, which spread across various motor parks in the city.
Recall that the OGSPAM was established by the state government following the suspension of NURTW activities in 2021, which was later lifted in October 2023.
But the Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, had instructed , earlier in the month, that both the NURTW and OGSPAM alternate in ticket sales to maintain peace and order among the union.
According to reports, Akeem Abodunrin, a leader of NURTW, had been appointed as chairman of OGSPAM during the NURTW suspension period.
Tension escalated when Dairo ordered OGSPAM to relinquish revenue collection duties to NURTW.
While commenting on the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamatu, assured that the situation was now under control and refuted claims of loss of lives during the clash.
