The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has cautioned students against using the social media to spread falsehood information capable of causing disaffection.
Bestman Okereafor, NANS National Public Relations Officer, made the statement in Enugu on Thursday.
Okereafor advised students to desist from spreading false information through the social media on incidences that did not exist, as the practice was capable of endangering the relative peace enjoyed in the country.
According to him “The attention of the apex students’ governing body under the sponsorships of NANS has been drawn to a purported voice note and old pictures of an attack in circulation that happened in Ogun state.
He noted that Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, under the watch of Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, remains pro-active to caution vices that are detrimental to peace in the country.
He stated that “People, especially students spreading false rumours about the security status of the state should desist from such act.
The NANS spokesman said the association had confidence in Ogun State Police Command adding that “Governor. Ibikunle Amosun over the years made security a priority in the government’s agenda, he said this has fetched him several awards and laurels,’’.
