Seven Confirmed Dead in Bauchi Stampede

Seven People have been confirmed dead at a stampede which unfolded at Shafa Holdings Company Plc headquarters along Jos Road in Bauchi State on Sunday morning.

The unfortunate stampede occurred around 10 a.m. during the company’s annual Zakat exercise, aimed at aiding the less privileged in the state.

According to reports, the stampede happened as crowds gathered for the almsgiving event. The sudden rush led to chaos, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the distressing situation but assured that it has since been brought under control. Upon receiving a distress call from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, the police swiftly responded, cordoning off the area and attending to the injured.

Initially, five individuals were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, four of them succumbed to their injuries. The Commissioner of Police, Musa Mohammed, promptly directed resources to the scene to manage the situation.

In a subsequent update, it was revealed that three more women lost their lives as a result of the stampede. Two of them passed away at the Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, while the third woman died at home.

The victims of this heartbreaking incident come from various backgrounds and ages, adding to the profound sense of loss experienced by the community. Their names and ages are as follows: Aisha Usman (13), Sahura Abubakar (55), Aisha Ibrahim Abubakar (43), Khadija Isah (8), Maryam Suleiman (20), Maryam Shuibu (16), and Hassana Saidu (53).
