Sen. Shehu Sani has cautioned on the appointment of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconcile aggrieved members saying avoidable doom awaits the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2019 polls if Tinubu failed in his duty.

Sani, a chieftain of the APC who represents Kaduna central in the Senate, stated this in Abuja while reacting to Tinubu´s recent appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the APC team of consultation, reconciliation, and confidence-building.

Tinubu’s assignment, among others, is to address issues of cohesion within the APC ahead of the 2019 general election. It involves resolving disagreements among party members and leaders.

His assignment also includes reconciling political office holders in some APC-controlled states and addressing crises in the party`s chapters in Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Bauchi and other states.

Sani stated that Tinubu’s failure will be a tragedy for APC adding that the party is faced with crises in some states where it holds sway, according to him the crises have since defied solutions for over two years.

He accused the Kaduna state governor Ahmad Nasir El-Rufai of pocketing the party and attempting to impose his will and unleash terror on members, by exploiting his proximity to the President.

He also noted that Tinubu´s appointment has halted, the defection of most APC members to other political parties noting that efforts made in the past have failed to address the multi-state crises.

The Senator, however, advised the Tinubu reconciliation team not to take sides but to give equal treatment, in the interest of the party and its members especially on issues involving Kaduna state.

He expressed confidence that Tinubu´s appointment could most likely address the fundamental issues that were confronting the party at both national and state level.
