Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has called on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru to pull back soldiers from state governors and other politicians.
He disclosed this on Tuesday when the Chief of Army Staff led senior military officers including the new General Officer Commanding the Six Division in Port Harcourt, Major General Sani Mohammed on a civility visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Wike fix a charge on the COAS to make a difference by tackling the security challenges in the country varying from banditry to terrorism, abduction and militancy among several others.
“The country is presently experiencing a lot of insecurity now. So pullback these soldiers from politicians so that the soldiers can go and do their work,” he said
“Back then, when you see a soldier, you run. But nowadays, it is difficult because soldiers have been exposed to politics.
“I want you to make a total difference to say that what your interest is to guide Nigerians, fight bandits, insurgency and not to carry ballot boxes.”
Adding that, the governor also said he lacked confidence in the leadership of the ex-service chiefs led by General Gabriel Olonisakin.
Following statements of Wike , the move mandated his decision to oppose the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) endorsement for the fresh removal of funds by the Federal Government for the fresh withdrawal of funds to fight insecurity.
He even so called for more cooperation in the battle against insecurity.
