PDP makes N259 Million in Sale of Forms to Ondo governorship Aspirants, adopts indirect primary method

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully accumulated a sum of N259 million through the sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to seven gubernatorial hopefuls in Ondo State. Scheduled for November 16, 2024, the Ondo State governorship election has stirred significant activity within political circles.

Commencing the sale of forms on March 7, the PDP adhered to its prescribed timetable, concluding the sale on Thursday, March 21. Aspiring candidates are required to procure, fill, and submit these forms by March 25.

Notably, the Nomination Form was priced at N30 million, the Expression of Interest Form at N5 million, alongside additional charges including Party Rebranding Fee and Secretariat Charges, each valued at N1 million. However, in a gesture promoting inclusivity, the Expression of Interest Form was made freely available to female aspirants and those with disabilities.

According to the party’s outlined schedule, a congress is slated for April 25, 2024, where the gubernatorial candidate will be determined. The PDP has opted for an indirect primary mechanism to select its candidate for the Ondo State governorship, as confirmed by a senior member of the PDP National Working Committee.

As of Thursday afternoon, investigations revealed that seven aspirants had procured forms totaling N35 million and paid requisite charges at the PDP national headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja. Among these aspirants are prominent figures such as former Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi; former commissioner and Afenifere chieftain, Olusola Ebiseni; Akinwumi Adeolu; Otunba Bamidele Akingboye; Kolade Akinjo; Bosun Arebuwa; and John Mafo, a legal practitioner.

It was exclusively disclosed that the PDP’s choice for an indirect primary method was made to select its candidate. However, aspirants Bosun Arebuwa and Kolade Akinjo have urged their counterparts not to view securing the party’s ticket as an all-consuming endeavor. They stressed the importance of rescuing the populace from the alleged mismanagement under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing reporters in Abuja after obtaining their forms at the PDP secretariat, Arebuwa emphasized unity within the party and the goal of restoring Ondo State to PDP. Akinjo echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the necessity of offering an alternative to the current state of governance in Ondo.
