In a swift move following the impeachment of Comrade Philip Shaibu as Deputy Governor, Edo State Assembly has appointed 38-year-old Omobayo Godwins as the new deputy governor.
Earlier reports have it that the impeachment of Shaibu came after a thorough investigation by a seven-man panel probing misconduct allegations against the former deputy governor.
Omobayo Godwins, confirmed by the State House of Assembly, took oath at about 1:30 pm in a brief ceremony at the Government House in Benin City. The event drew supporters, government officials, and politicians.

Born on July 19, 1986, in Edo State, Omobayo boasts a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Benin. His professional journey, including leadership roles at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, showcases his vast experience in infrastructure development and governance.
He is a member of esteemed engineering bodies like the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.
His political footprint in Akoko Edo local government reveals him as a unifying force, adept at rallying communities towards common objectives. His strategic prowess often surprises adversaries, cementing his status as a political stalwart.
In his acceptance speech, Omobayo stated his dedication to using engineering and administrative expertise for Edo State’s advancement. According to him, he envisions a technologically advanced and administratively efficient state.
