A extended form of the previous Ijora-Olopa axis mayhem caused by revolting Okada riders and opportunistic miscreants replayed itself at the Iyana-Ipaja suburb of Lagos earlier today.
FirstNigeriaTV reporter Friday Ifeanyi who visited the scene to assess the situation said that virtually all the streets adjoining the Central Iyana-Ipaja park were devoid of motorists and commuters who stayed indoors for fear of attack by the raging hoodlums and the roads were dotted with fire blocks indicating zero commuting.
Also according to him, several and likely jobless young men joined forces with the Okada riders to unleash terror in the area, the Okada operators concentrating on attacking police personnel while the area boys also unleashed terror on innocent citizens caught up at points of disorder.
Mrs Tope Manuel, a bakery owner in the area gave an account of the mayhem to our reporter.
“The rampage started with some Okada operators aggregating and holding private discussions in their park. All of a sudden, the police came around and I think in the process of determining what the Okada men were up to, misunderstanding occurred between them. As if it was a minor issue, we became shocked when area boys appeared from nowhere to complicate the issue and before we could say ‘Jack Robinson’, the whole area had turned to a battle ground that made us all to hurriedly close our shops and scamper for safety”, she said.
Above is a short video on the disturbance:
