The Lagos State Taskforce, led by Chief Superintendent of Police, Shola Jejeloye, has impounded 470 motorcycles in a recent operation aimed at enforcing the ban on motorcycle (popularly known as Okada) operations in restricted areas across the state.
According to a statement by Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director, Press & Public Affairs, Lagos State Taskforce on Monday, the impoundment is part of the state government’s commitment to aligning with its THEMES PLUS Agenda, and follows intensified efforts to maintain sanity on Lagos highways while safeguarding motorists.
The week-long operation, conducted at various strategic locations including Berger, Fagba, Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja, 2nd Rainbow, Festac, First Gate, Alakija, Mile 2, Ilasan, Maroko, Lekki, Ikota, and Chevron, resulted in the confiscation of 150, 120, and 250 motorcycles from these areas respectively.
CSP Shola Jejeloye said the government remains commited to eradicating Okada operations, urging commuters to prioritize safer alternatives such as the new blue/red line railway services and Milennium bus services.
He also appealed to Okada operators to seek other legitimate means of survival or relocate out of the state, assuring Lagosians that the agency would continue its raids across all restricted areas, highways, and bridges until Okada operations become a thing of the past.
