National Wire, a  Nigerian news website, has introduced the National Wire Campus Business Journalism Award, an initiative designed to recognise outstanding business reporting by student journalists in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

This award seeks to provide a platform for aspiring journalists to showcase their talent in financial journalism. Winners will be rewarded with cash prizes, certificates, and internship opportunities with reputable media organisations, as well as mentorship from seasoned professionals in journalism and finance.

The award is categorised into three segments: Best Business Feature Story, Best Data-Driven Business Report, and Best Campus Journal of the Year. Eligible participants must be students of recognised Nigerian tertiary institutions and submit published stories of no more than 1,300 words. The stories must have been published between October 1, 2023, and October 16, 2024.

Key dates to note include the call for entries, which begins on October 10, 2024, with the submission deadline set for November 10, 2024. The award ceremony will take place in January 2025.

Dayo Emmanuel, News Editor at National Wire, highlighted the award’s mission to nurture the next generation of financial journalists. “We aim to help student journalists gain a deeper understanding of financial reporting while providing a platform for their talents to be recognised,” Emmanuel stated.

This initiative aligns with National Wire’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of financial journalism in Nigeria, equipping young journalists with the skills necessary to succeed in today’s data-driven media landscape.

Since its inception in 2016, National Wire has been dedicated to impactful journalism, with a team trained in Financial Journalism through the Bloomberg Media Initiative for Africa (BMIA). This new award furthers the organisation’s support for the Nigerian journalism community.
