A devastating fire swept through the Tejuosho Market in Yaba, Lagos State, on Wednesday, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The inferno which started around 12:30 pm, particularly ravaged the Tailor Market section, known for its clothing and tailoring materials. Traders reported losses estimated to run into millions of naira, including industrial machines and finished products meant for local and international markets
Emergency services from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, supported by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), responded swiftly to the incident. According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, and Lagos Fire Service Director, Adeseye Margaret, the fire was brought under control without any casualties or injuries reported.
Eyewitnesses and affected traders described it as a scenes of chaos and despair as the fire consumed their shops and stalls.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but some traders attributed the incident to the frequent need to store fuel due to unreliable power supply. They have called on the government for immediate assistance to help them rebuild their businesses and prevent such occurrences in the future
