Manchester United has confirmed the signing of Chilean international Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan swapping in the opposite direction.
The swap deal was a profitable one for Arsene Wenger’s team and a good one for Sanchez who would earn the biggest pay in the English Premier League.
Arsenal bought Alexis Sanchez, from Barcelona in 2014 for £31.7million. Almost four years after, the London club sold the talented player to Manchester United for £35m, bagging in the bargain the services of Armenian striker Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Sanchez disclosed “I was thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world”. He added “The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down.
He stated “I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United’s first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here.”
Sanchez is expected to be the highest paid player in the Premier League ever, with British media reporting a pre-tax salary of £500,000 ($695,000, 567,000 euros) a week.
