MOMTAN National Board of Trustees, Lagos Executives Pass ‘Vote of No Confidence’ on National President, National Executive Council.

Rising from a stakeholders’ meeting RECENTLY in Lagos, the NATIONAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria AND ITS LAGOS STATE CHAPTER comprising of the Chairman and representatives of all branches and divisions unanimously passed a ‘vote of no confidence’ on the leadership of the incumbent National President of the association, Alhaji S. A. Oseni AND MEMBERS OF ITS NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.

Prior to the meeting, members of the National Board of Trustees of the association had called for an earlier meeting between them and the embattled President, aimed at drawing his attention to certain ills about his leadership which they considered unconstitutional, which they claimed he cleverly shunned. The meeting therefore held in his absence and it was at the gathering that the idea of the passage of a ‘vote of no confidence’ was muted.

According to an issued communique jointly signed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, MOMTAN, Pa S.O. Solagbade and the Secretary, Pa A. J. Odusanya at the close of the meeting, some of the allegations against Oseni included his:

•personal agenda aimed at meeting MOMTAN with NATA which he expressed in his speech at the MOMTAN symposium in Abuja on 27th October, 2016.

•single handed funding of an illegal MOMTAN Technical School without the consent of the Chapters’ executives and trustees.

•conduct of running the association like his personal endeavour without regard to members of its Board of Trustees, of which he is also a member.

•non-disclosure of the numerical numbers of chapters of the association.

•bypassing the Lagos State Chapter to collect annual dues from members at branches’ level.

•setting aside the function of the National Delegates’Conference to unilaterally pick Prince S. O. Adedeji as Acting Secretary General since 2014 till date and

•singlehandedly issuing and signing all the identity cards of all the members of the association for financial gains.

And considering the above anomalies, the trustees, patrons and elders present at the meeting held on 11th April 2017 declared total lack of confidence in the administration of President S. O. Oseni and all other representatives of the association in the National Executive Council.

Our correspondent spoke via telephone with Engineer Oseni to find out his response to the tendered allegations but he said he was far away, in Potiskum, north of Nigeria and would not be able to attend to details on phone.

“I don’t have any reaction to what they might be doing. What we have done is to dissolve their executive body based on the allegations we had against them and we have appointed a caretaker committee that is already acting in capacity and giving the national body feedback”.

“I remain the President of the registered national body of mechanics and technicians and not of the Lagos Chapter, so let them in Lagos put up any reactions, they wish, I am not moved”, Oseni said.

It would be recalled that the National Executive Council of the association had published recently in some national newspapers that it had suspended the Lagos State Executives for alleged financial impropriety and the conduct of an illegal election to retain leadership in the state,  a moved perceived by the respondents as engineered by Oseni as a ploy to downplay impending face-off with him and his leadership style.
