The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced a nationwide strike, set to commence on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, in response to the tripartite committee’s failure to reach an agreement on a new minimum wage.
The strike declaration was made at a joint press conference in Abuja on Friday, led by TUC President Festus Osifo and NLC leadership.
According to labour leaders, the decision follows the expiration of a prior request to the Federal Government to conclude negotiations for a new minimum wage by the end of May.
The organised labour had previously withdrawn from negotiations and rejected two offers from the Federal Government, including a proposal to set the minimum wage at N60,000.
