The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued a joint ultimatum to the federal government, warning of an impending industrial action if their demands are not met.
A communiqué to that effect was released today, where the labour unions gave the government and National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) until the end of May to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariff. Failure to do so will lead to a nationwide strike, the unions warned.
The unions also reiterated their May 31 deadline for the government to conclude the new minimum wage negotiations. “If the government fails to meet our demands, we will have no choice but to embark on a national strike to protect the interests of Nigerian workers,” the communiqué stated.
