The meeting, which took place at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, was held behind closed doors, with no official statement issued on the substance of the discussions.
Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, shared photographs of the engagement on his X account.
Images from the meeting showed both leaders in a relaxed conversation inside the president’s office.

Videos also showed President Tinubu giving Jonathan a warm reception and exchanging greetings with the Bayelsa-born former president.
Although details of the agenda were not disclosed, the visit is consistent with a pattern of periodic engagements between the two leaders, often centred on West African political developments.
Wednesday’s meeting also comes amid growing political activity ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
While there has been speculation in some quarters about a possible return to electoral politics by the former president, no official position has been stated by Jonathan.
Jonathan’s latest visit comes several months after his previous meeting with Tinubu on November 29, 2025. That engagement followed his evacuation from Bissau amid a political crisis in Guinea-Bissau, where he had been leading an election observation mission under the West African Elders Forum.
Over the past decade, Jonathan has remained active in regional diplomacy, serving as an election observer and mediator across several West African nations, including Mali, The Gambia, and Liberia.
